I will get all the facts straight yet...my mouse is having her own way, today... The FHC folks at my local center will usually wait about one hour if no one is scheduled to come, then leave. This may be true for other centers as well if the centers are small. Jennifer Sherwood Braswell jensgen@iol10.com
Thanks, Michelle. at the FHC in my community, it pays to call ahead...if no one arrives after they will close, unless you let them that you will arrive later... Hi, I am looking for any information on the family of Alexander Dunn, a Captain in the Revolutionary War who served in North and South Carolina. Alexander was born in Guilford or Rutherford Co., NC on December 18, 1762. Fought at the Battle of King's Mountain, and was in the battle at Fort Sullivan. Lived in Jones Co., GA, and Forsyth, Monroe Co. Gave Declarations in Court in 1832 and 1834 in Monroe Co. Superior Court as to his military service. Died in Lafayette, Chambers Co., AL on December 22, 1846. Wives thought to be Christina O'Neal and Tabitha Wooten. I am trying to prove a father-daughter relationship between Alexander and Jane Dunn, who married Jeremiah A. Tharpe of Twiggs Co., son of Rev. Vincent Allentharpe. Sharing again... Marriages are the beginning of families...help your families to learn more about their pasts with hints from this family... If you don't homeschool, try these projects for holiday vacations, weekends, and summertime. Jennifer Sherwood Braswell jensgen@iol10.com ----- Original Message ----- From: MICHAEL MARTINEZ <mamkmm2@prodigy.net> To: <GAUPSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 09, 2000 11:47 AM Subject: [GAUPSON-L] off topic but still about genealogy & children : Hello. This is a little off topic but I just wanted to pass this along to : you. In recent weeks, several people have mentioned that they wished they : had listened to the older people in their families concerning the stories : and family traditions of earlier times. Some of you have even mentioned : that you are now trying to interest the children in your own families in : genealogy (children, grandchildren, niece, nephew, etc.) so they don't have : the same regrets that you do. : : As we all know, unless a child finds something at least remotely : interesting, it is unlikely that they will retain stories, concepts, etc. : for any length of time....if they ever get it at all. : : I recently found a series of books that some of you might be interested in. : They are called American Kids in History by David C. King. The three of : the series that I have are "Civil War Days," "Pioneer Days," and "Wild West : Days." There are also other books like "Colonial Days" and "Victorian : Days." Basically each book takes a fictional family and uses crafts, : cooking, prose, making homemade toys, and other activities to show how they : lived and interacted with each other and their environment. : : I'm not talking out of the top of my hat here, I homeschool my kids and I : have reviewed a lot of children's materials and these books are good. It : makes history interesting because it adds hands on type activities and : stories that the child can relate to, as well as making it more personal by : having the activities revolve around a fictional, but very believable, : family. The books are also attractively bound (paperback) and interestingly : llustrated with easy instructions for the crafts. : : I don't mean this to be a commercial or sponsorship of these books, but I : wanted to pass the information along to those of you who are interested. : After using these books, my kids are interested in finding out about our own : ancestors and can more easily relate to them because they have an : understanding of how the lived. It also gives them a kick to think that gre : at great....grandfather so and so must have done this as a boy and he wore : those kinds of clothes and great great....grandmother didn't get to wear : pants (she had to wear long skirts with umpteen petticoats even in the : hottest weather).....and now when they think about how Aunt and Uncle so and : so left the rest of the family and moved west they understand how truly : difficult a choice that must have been. : : Just a thought, : Kathy in FL mamkmm2@prodigy.net : : : ==== GAUPSON Mailing List ==== : : : :

I have not been able to find marriage info for my ggg grandparents, Warren W EDGE and his wife Elizabeth _?_. I have not found much on Warren or Elizabeth. He was born about 1810-1813 in GA. He had died by 1849 when his daughter, Mary Jane Edge married in 1849. I believe Mary Jane Edge Mosley, born 1835, was the eldest child, there might have been others to have been born and died by 1849, I am not sure. I have not been able to find a marriage anywhere in GA. I have a lot on the Edge family, but very little on my Warren and Elizabeth. Mary Nolte gnolte2@ametro.net
