My great-great grandfather was Needham Hatcher and is buried at Mt Enid Church which is on Stage Coach Road in Mitchell County. I have documentation showing that Needham Hatcher bought land in Mitchell county 7/14/1883 (lot 80) 9th district. This is currently where my family lives. I am trying to find out who Needham R Hatcher's father was so I can find out when my family came to this area. I believe they came from the Edgefield South Carolina area in the early 1800's. 1. "Scoggins Search"
    2. James A. Jones
    3. Hello to ALL in GAMITCHE-L "mail" and "digest" mode, I would like to request your help! My name is James Jones. I live in a small town called Manchester, which is situated in middle Tennessee. I am researching my mother's ellusive family name..."SCOGGINS" (Scroggins, Scogins). I've spent many years trying to locate our ancestors/descendants of this family line and to determine where they lived and raised their family(ies). Just recently, I had an unexpected lead which I found in an article in a Georgia Genealogical Society publication. It mentioned my ancestor "Sol" Scoggins who lived in and around the area of Camilla, Mitchell County, Georgia. This led me to the Camilla courthouse where I found an old land deed dated 1872, which had been brought in on a later date to be officially recorded. All other records prior have been lost due to an earlier courthouse fire. From the deed, I have located the approximate area where they owned this particular tract of land. The parcel is situated on the Old Mount Olive Road, due west out of Pelham just pass the intersection of Highway 112; very close to the Mount Olive Baptist Church. While visiting the church cemetery, I found two old unmarked concrete slabs/graves surrounded by a concrete wall. On this wall I found an inscription which read, "Nancy Scoggins, mother of R.A.? or H.A. Gay." This lead me to believe that I was in the right church but needed to move up a few more pews!! This is why I am asking for your help! I am very close but I'm still far away. Sol was known to be a contemporary of Alexander Godwin, whose grave I found in a nearby cultivated field If you know of any Scoggins descendants, a personal contact, perhaps a cemetery with any Scoggins buried there, a document which may help me find my mother's Scoggins' past....PLEASE contact me by e-mail or send me a note via the ground address below. I would greatly appreciate ANY lead no matter how large or how small!!! Thank you, J. Jones James A. Jones GROUCH'S Studio & Gallery 701 Matts Hollow Road Manchester, Tennessee 37355 (931) 723-4777
