My ggg grandfather is Joseph O'NEAL aka Jo. I have found him in the 1870 Meriweather Census but not the 1860 Meriweather Census. I did find his brother, Isaac O'NEAL in the 1860 census living with P.C. THRASH, fam/dwell. 893, Jones Mill, Meriweather Co. Fam/dwell. 901, of same, there is an Atlas O'NEAL age 48, wife Angeline and family. Isaac and Joseph O'NEAL, and Elmore C. THRASH were all in the same company and unit in the Civil War, Co. F, 41st Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Howard's Infantry, from Meriweather Co., GA. Isaac was wounded in Atlanta and died in Macon in 1864. Joseph married Nancy Elizabeth BROWN on Dec. 13, 1866 in Greenville, Meriweather Co., GA. Nancy was the daughter of John S. BROWN b. ca. 1811. Nancy's mother was Mary. Other siblings of Nancy were: Henry, Mercer, Mary and Thomas. This Brown family was in Wayne Co., GA in 1850 and Meriweather in 1860. By 1880 the O'Neal family was living in Pike Co., Arkansas along with several other O'Neal's. Joseph and Nancy's children were: Charles b. 1869 GA, Sum_er (either Sumner, Sumter, or Sumler) b. 1871 GA, Margie Ophelia b. 1872 GA ( my gg grandmother), and Mary Fannie b. 1876 GA. On Joseph's Civil War Pension Application, dated June 1904, it has the signatures of D.M. THRASH and R.B. THORNTON, as Comrades during the Civil War. They were living in Pike Co., Arkansas, too. Would like to know where Joseph O'Neal was in 1860 and who his parents were. Thank you for your interest. Stacey Poe
