A search for Mary Burton in Georgia yielded only one--in Meriwether County. I would love to have a lookup for the 1850 census that would reveal who was in the same household. I do not think she had a son alive in 1850 but had at least two daughters, Susan, who married Irvin Sutton and Mary Springs Burton, unmarried in 1844. Mary Burton was born in York District, SC, daughter of Capt. George Pettus and Jane Knox. She was a widow of William Burton of Mecklenburg County, NC. She attended Flint Hill Baptist Church in Fort Mill township of York District. After her husband's death in early 1840s the Flint Hill church record states: "Moved to Georgia" and no more.
