Dear Elaine, Often times look-ups for enlistments are hard... look up this site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gataylor/gamildefine.htm this is a 4 page description of the military research fields... not all soldiers were in the CSA...some were in the state guards, which protected the home state after the invasion... sometimes they joined nearby counties... Georgia had a militia since colonial times. The state was, and remains, organized into "Militia Districts". On your property tax bill, if you live in Georgia, will read, "GMD" which stands for "Georgia Military District"...so don't limit your search to counties only...their recruiting methods were not always by counties...and also the county boundary lines change.... there were also the Reserves which were 6 month enlistments try this look-up...some of my relatives from Meriwether county joined: Taylor County State Guard Troops State Guards - Cavalry Co H 12th (Robinson's) Regt Ga Cav State Guards- Taylor Infantry Capt Rucker's Co, 5th Regt Inf I hope this is not too much info for you... good luck barbara Milam thurmond
