Does anyone have any Whites in Meriwether? I have come across John and L. White (with their children)in the 1850 Meriwether census. The eldest son listed is a Wm., age 21, attending school, and was born in NC, as were both of his parents and some of his siblings. My known ancestor, William Robert White was born in NC and could probably be this same fellow. My Wm. Robert White married Mary Jane Shackelford in Meriwether in 1852. Please can anyone be of assistance? Thank you - Ann
Is any one familiar with the Family of Thomas R. and Mary Rowe from Meriwether Co, GA? He was born in about 1833, she was born in abt. 1839. They had children: Alexander b. abt. 1855-57 John b.abt. 1857 Robert b. abt 1859 Sarah b. abt 1861 Luther b. abt 1864 Mary b. abt 1866 Hugh b. abt 1868 Emitt b. abt 1872 I found this family in Meriwether Co, in 1860/ 1870 / 1880. I believe Thomas' parents may have been James and Narcissa Rowe. My hopes are to connect Alexander with this family to my family line. Thanks to anyone who has any information on this family that they would be willing to share. Elaine
Nelson Bowles is 49 in 1850. His wife, Elizabeth, is 44. A child, Elizabeth, is 19. The youngest of 9 children is 4. You're welcome, Imani.
I have a copy of one of my dad's class photos that says "Greenville 1951-1952". I'm guessing he was in the 1st or 2nd grade (unfortunately, Dad passed away & there is no notation on the back). If anyone is interested, I can e-mail you a copy. I also have a photo that was in Dad's diploma of a male that I'm guessing was one of his teachers, but don't know who it is. Hi Everyone, Just in case you haven't seen this...and also a personal message from me. US County Resources at RootsWeb http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/ or <a href=http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA">US County Resources at Rootsweb</a> >For those of you who may not know (and even those who do), RootsWeb has >developed "Resource Clusters" .... websites containing links and search >boxes for all the various resources available on any RootsWeb server. > >We now have Surname Resource sites and US County Resource sites. > > http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/ > http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/ > >Part of the process in developing these sites was to fill out or make full >GenConnect suites for each of the top 10K surnames from the RSL, and also >for every US county. Well, we are finally moving! Friday we sign the papers for a new home and by Monday or Tuesday, we will be on our way...moving from this apartment to our new home. I've got pictures up at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~micajah/ourhouse.htm if you care to go by and take a look. I'm going to have to be offline, probably 2 weeks, give or take a few days. Elizabeth Harris, ncgen@mindspring.com will monitor the counties and mail lists, while I'm away. Since I won't be able to keep the cable modem after the move, [it's a different cable company where we are moving to,] starting today, I'm doing away with the micajah@mail.newnanutilities.org If you send any messages to me, use micajah@mindspring.com .....I'll still get them, but you'll get a "I'm on vacation message". If there's a corner somewhere to set up the computer, I'll try to at least check mail, on an regular basis. Chester county SC is up for adoption so if anyone is interested, contact Victoria Proctor, vproc@ix.netcom.com SC for SC. I've given her all the passwords and ftp setups. If you decide to adopt it, you'll be getting the entire county intact, so you don't have to start from scratch. The mail list and genconnect boards are to stay with the county coordinator and the new resources, provided by rootsweb have already been set up so you'll have those too. I love Chester co, dearly, but I've exhausted all the resources I have for Chester Co research, and it's in need of someone new to take over. Someone who can bring more into it, than I can. Hi Everyone, per Brian Leverich, owner of rootsweb and provider of our county mail lists and web space for our county sites. >RootsWeb is announcing "County Resource" pages for every county in America. The pages include or will include links to USGenWeb sites on RootsWeb, a mailing list, a >GenConnect suite, a link registry, search engines for the USGenWeb >Archives and the RSL, an event calendar, a guestbook, and various >other tools. > >You can see the County Resources at: > http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/ or use this link <a href="http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/">County Resources</a> if you are on aol. > >We expect to be adding tools to the Resource pages as rapidly as we >can. There will surely be a Social Security Death Index search and >some other nice features coming on line in the not-to-distant future. Suddenly, we have a calendar and a guest book! AND I did not have to do anything to get it. I have already requested the counties I host for NCGenWeb and if you visit the resource page, you will see a link back to the county/counties. There are a few bugs to be worked out, but all in all, this is going to be a great resource that will compliment what is already online for Burke, Lincoln, Rutherford, which I host or any other county in the Project. And for those Meriwether county Ga. list folks who requested lookups, I still have them, but have never made it to the courthouse! Hubby has had me house-hunting all this time. We found one and will be moving soon. I'm slow, but will prove dependable yet! Just to make sure I did not lose your requests, I printed them 6 times. Sincerely, Debbie Fowler

Since I haven't posted anything really useful in quite a while, I thought this might make up for my lapse<G> Tip: To search the mail list archives at rootsweb, go to http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl and type in the name of the mail list you would like to search. NCBURKE, NCLINCOL, NCRUTHER, NCHAYWOO, GAMERIWE, CATAWBA-WEST NCGASTON, etc If the listowner has chosen to have the messages archived, then all messages sent to the list will be available to search for your ancestors names. Since I am listowner for these lists.... NCBURKE, NCLINCOL, NCRUTHER, NCHAYWOO, GAMERIWE, I know that they are archived with the exception of Meriwether co ga. Will go enroll that one right now! In a few days to a week, it too will have been indexed and open for searching. Debbie

This came from a good friend and fellow researcher. I don't know a lot about the civil war or the battles fought in Ga, not being a born and bred Georgian myself. But for those who are, you may be interested in responding to Gov. Barnes about this. The first part is from my friend, with the original message last. Please just delete if you aren't interested. If anyone has any information this is NOT actually happening, please let this list know. I'm only forwarding this and have no actual knowledge of the events.
