Does anyone have a photo of New Hope Methodist Church that they would be willing to share. I have many family members buried there and a link to it's history through them. Thank you Cari Spano Girard Ohio
Would anyone who has the Meriwether GA cemetery book be willing to look for the Surname MILLER. Specifically, Jacob, Martin, Haman, George, John, and Mathias. Any would be welcomebut those specifically.
Rayanne, Thanks for your response. My mother grew up in Gay, Meriwether County, GA. I am from Griffin, GA originally, but now live in Girard, Ohio. I will contact Dorothy. I very much appreciate your help. Cari Spano
I was in Greenville, GA, this past fall at an "Ector" family reunion and met quite a few people that had known of my family. I met a Dorothy Argroves Biggers, quite a lovely person, who does not have email, I don't believe. phone 706-672-4700. Snail mail address, 2005 Highway 100, Greenville, 30222. She had a great deal of family history as I recall. I couldn't decide in your address whether or not you were from Greenville, SC or Greenville, GA. Therefore you may know this person. @@@ @@@@ @ @ @ @ )( Rayanne Ector-Cain Eector3@aol.com
I am searching for the family of Mary Ella ARGROVES from Meriwether County. Mary Ella married William Porter TIDWELL in 1883. Their child John Edd TIDWELL was my grandfather. I am guessing that Mary Ella was probably born between 1860-1870 as John Edd was born in 1890. I think that Allen ARGROVES (see below) was Mary Ella's grandfather. If anyone is doing research on the ARGROVES family or knows someone who is please contact me at Cari75@aol.com. 1850 Census, Georgia, Meriwether County 1064 ARGROVES, Allen 60 M Miller SC Mary A. 39 F SC Nancy C. 20 F SC Mathias M. 16 M F GA Sarah F. B. 6 M GA Moved from SC to GA between 1830-1834 My grandfather John Edd TIDWELL referred to an Uncle Sut, who was probably Benjamin Sutley ARGROVES, the son of Mathias who is listed above. Thank you so much for any help you can possibly give. Cari

I am looking for information on James B ESTES and Lucy (FULLER) ESTES and their children. They were married in Granville, NC in 1813 and moved to Troup Co late 1820's. Known children were: 1. David ESTES b 1818 in NC and married Elizabeth Ann CALDWELL in Troup Co in 1839, but lived most of their married life in Meriwether Co. They had 11 children. 2. John W ESTES b 1819 in NC and married 1st Martha Frances ROBERTS in 1842. 2nd Martha Frances ROBERTS in 1854. (She was the niece and name sake of his 1st wife) 3rd Irene Elizabeth "Lizzie" MILLER in 1873. He had a total of 14 children by his three wives. ( 4-9-1) 3. Nathaniel ESTES b abt 1827 probably in GA and died abt 1863 in LA during CW. He is believed to have never married. 4. Caroline ESTES b ? married Larkin WALKER in 1838. They died in Carroll Co., GA Pennie Estes that married a FULLER is believed to be James and Lucy's child, but no documented proof. There was also a Kimbrel ESTES b abt 1815 in NC that had a close connection to James B ESTES. James witnessed many of the legal papers for Kimbrel. Kimbrel's wife Rebecca CALDWELL was the sister of Elizabeth (CALDWELL) ESTES, David's wife. Kimbrel & Rebecca had children named James, John W and Lucy. David had a son named Kimbal. Was this just a coincidence or was there a family connection? Any help with this family will be greatly appreciated. I am willing to exchange information. Doris Estes Robbins drobbin6@bellsouth.net
In additition to the regiments that was sent to you, you should also search out the "State Guards". The Calvalry seems to be separate from the listings of the Infantry. Check out the "State Guard Troops, Calvalry" to find more info.. The State Guard was one of Gov. Joe Brown's attempts to maintain a military force under state control, and it was organized in the summer of 1863 for 6 months service in case of emergency (i.e., invasion of GA). it comprised about 12 numbered regiments (8 inf., 4 cav); 2 "Legions"; 20 numbered battalions (inf, cav, mounted inf-battalions varied in size from 2-9 companies), enlisted to serve in defense of specified regions of the state. They were numbered in the same way as normal Volunteers. They mostly remained under Georgia command... I did some research on my ancestor: Leander (Lee) Jones Milam who was in: Calvalry Company H 12th from Capt,. W. H. Robinson, then later from Capt. McGowen Rufus Johnson ( a neighbor and later an in-law of the Milam's) was in the Infantry, 5th Bn. (State Guards) Company F The State Guards are listed differently than those of the CSA's.... I got this information on: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gataylor/gamildefine.htm Hope this is informative... Barbara Milam Thurmond

Hello, I am researching the JAMES family that appears on the 1850 census, especially the ones from SC. Is there a way to find out from the census what part of SC they were from. I believe that mind is as follows: Nancy James (49?) Anna Julia James (13) Calvin James (16) I also think that maybe a daug Sarah married a Gothard and there may have been another son. If someone has the census would you mind letting me know if these people are listed? And if there maybe a will that would tell who Anna(Juley) Julia's father was. TIA for any help, Mollie Charles Pawlik Texas

Does anyone have the 1880 Meriwether County Census available? I am trying to verify the father of my Great Grandmother Mary Caroline (Carrie) TIDWELL ROBERTS. I think her father was Simeon E. (possibly Earl) TIDWELL. Born abt 1838. He served in the civil war, married someone with the first name Mary and died in Meriwether County in 1902. He is buried in the same cemetery as Mary Caroline and her husband James Jacob ROBERTS, near their graves. The cemetery is New Hope Methodist. He is listed as a 12 year old child in the household of Uriah Tidwell and wife Rachel in 1850 census. Mary Caroline TIDWELL was born in 1876 so the 1880 census should have her listed as his child about 3-4 years old. It might say Carrie instead of Mary or Caroline because that was what she went by. If anyone has the 1880 census and can verify this relationship for me I would be most grateful. Thank you, Cari Spano Cari75@aol.com Researching ROBERTS, TIDWELL, PHELPS, MORRIS, ARGROVES, FOSTER, McCARTER, BIRD, SWANSON, FARR, COLLIER

Hi, I thought I needed to tell everyone that my mail server is still having problems. I do not receive the mail, can only send. This has been an intermittent problem for the last two weeks, so if anyone has attempted to reach me, you probably haven't. Just keep trying as some mail does make it. I apologize that this is an ongoing problem, but it is out of my hands. They tell me it is being fixed....
