    1. [GAMERIWE] Wallace
    2. Hi All, I'm looking for information on John Wallace of the infamous murder in Coweta County. I understand over near Pine Mountain use to stand a Wallace farm, that was owned by his family. He was cousin to Tom Strickland, Stricklands father was Mozart Strickland which are a connection to my Strickland family and I am trying to fill in that part of the family. Trying to find information to understand what the connection was. I have more details of the story if anyone would like to share infomation. Will be making a trip fairly soon to meriwether to try and find out more. any information would be a big help. Also any information on Stricklands in Strickland town in Luthersville would be helpful also. Thanks Laura

    1. Re: [GAMERIWE] re Dunn/Walton in Meri 1850
    2. Gloria, I have many Waltons in my family who hail from Meriweather Cty. One of my ancestrial grandmothers was Eleanor Walton [Ector]. My Ector family was in Mer.Cty. at the time of the war and lost everything as a result thereof. They did own slaves, which I am sorry to attest to. But they were so well treated that they took the Ector name when given their freedom. My grandfather Hugh Walton Ector gave the land the city is built on I will submit anything further I find out about "Eleanor". Take care. My signature block: <Hugh Ector b. 1747=Eleanor Walton b. 1755?> <Hugh Walton Ector b. 1798=Dolly Duncan b. 1801> <Benton Baxter Ector b. 1835=Martha Jane Adams b. 1837><Levi McDaniel Ector b. 1868=Rendie Lula Scisson b.1869> <Raymond McDaniel Ector b. 1908=Evelyne Lovelace b.1916><Rayanne (me) b.1935> <(*O*)> Rayanne Ector-Cain

Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gloria Johnson To: GAMERIWE-l-request@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, February 18, 2000 10:05 AM Subject: Dunn & Walton Family I am seeking info on Dunns and Waltons in Meriwether Co. GA. William D. Dunn & Melinda Walton were my great, great grandparents. William was born April 11, 1820 in NC?. He married Melinda Walton, born Jan 25, 1821 SC, in Meriwether Co. GA on Jan. 21, 1849. I am really interested in learining about William's ancestors or siblings. He is my "Brick Wall." Dunn is maiden name and I would really like to find info on William. William & Melinda had 6 sons. The first three were born in Meriwether Co, the last 3 in Tallapoosa Co. AL. Their children were: James T., born Jan 26, 1850 who married Sarah Permilia Patterson; William Nathan born Aug. 2, 1851, who married Malinda Patterson; David Franklin, born Nov. 29, 1853, who married Sarah Elizabeth Farrer; Columbus M., born Aug. 17, 1856, who married Vicktoria Ann Cunningham; John W., born March 29, 1859 who married Nancy Ann Page; and Leonidus Mitchell, born July 29, 1861 who married Margaret Bunion Page. William died of disease during the Civil War in 1862. Melinda moved to Jackson Co., and then to Etowah Co., AL where she died May 6, 1899. Melinda's parents were Thomas Walton, born 1792 died 1857 and Catherine Williamson born Feb. 1793, died Sept. 24, 1854. I would be most grateful for ANY INFORMATION on any of the above people or people who might connect with them. Thanks. Gloria

    2. Hi Cari, My mother was born in Gay in 1918. She is the youngest of 13 children of the Drew family. My grandfather's mother was a Brown. My grandmother's father was a Mann and her mother was a Thrash. I have always enjoyed stories of her childhood in Meriwether County. The farm has been owned by our family since 1837. I spent many days of my own childhood visiting my grandparents, aunt, and uncle on the farm in Gay. There was no indoor plumbing until the late 1950s and my aunt cooked all the meals on a wood burning stove until the late 1960s. She made the best biscuits in the world on that stove. I would love to read your mother's story and I'm sure my mother would enjoy it also. Patty Edwards

    3. I am quite interested! Not only do these sort of memoirs help us preserve history and make our genealogies much more fun and meaningful, but I like to send such memoirs on to my mother who was born about the same time. This sometimes spurs her on to write about her own childhood. Please do share! Elizabeth Cari75@aol.com wrote: > > My mother grew up in Meriwether Co. She was born in 1920.
