The Marion County Patriot, No. 26 Friday, July 9, 1909 Page One Brown Spring Our community was shocked by the death of Mr. T.J. McClung, which occurred at his home on Tuesday morning. Mr. McClung was a Christian gentleman and one of our best citizens. Mrs. Lizzie Scott and children, of Phoenix City, Ala., who has been visiting at the home of Mrs. C.A. Rogers, have returned home. Messrs. Hermon (Herman?) and Jessie McDaniel, of Preston, Ga., spent the Fourth with relatives and friends here. The family reunion of Mrs. Hester on last Saturday was well attended. Rev. Clynes/Olynes and Mr. T.H. Retherford, of Eelbeck, attended services at the Chapel Sunday. Mrs. Posy Brown and Miss Jennie Maye Reynolds visited Miss Green and Mrs. Feilder (transciber note: should be Fielder) on Pine Knot recently. Mrs. Nathaniel Stringfellow, of Dothan, Ala., is visiting her uncle here this week. Miss Alma Parker and Mr. Lon Sattle attended the singing Sunday p.m. Miss Blanche Youngblood has resumed her school work here. We are glad to welcome her return. Mr. and Mrs. Albert McDaniel and Mr. and Mrs. Posey Brown enjoyed at fish-fry at Mr. Ryals last Saturday. Mr. Elijah L. Cook, of Columbus, returned home today after a pleasant visit to his father and friends. Misses Ida Belle Reynolds and Fannie Ella McDaniel accompanied by Mr. Herma (Herman?) McDaniel spent Saturday at Juniper. The married ladies' club met with Mrs. Will Rutherford Wednesday p.m. Little Andrew Roberson is very low with fever. One of the most pleasant social gathering of the season was the reception on Monday evening given by Mrs. Posey Brown in honor of the visiting young ladies and young men, Misses Fannie McDaniel, of Preston and Dessa Carmack, of Columbus, and Messrs. Jim Owens, of Birmingham, Ala. and Elijah Cook, of Columbus. The house was beautifully decorated. After various games were played, cream, cake and punch were served by charming little girls. Olive Protracted meeting started at Mt. Olive last Sunday. Mrs. S.R. Lawhorn and children, of Spring Hill, spent Saturday night at the home of Simeon Lawhorn. W.R. Upton, of Draneville, visited his daughter, Mrs. Minnie Lawhorn, last week. Miss Julia Youngblood left Saturday to take charge of her school at Rabbit. J.W. Hand is all smiles over the arrival of a fourteen pound girl at his home. Misses Mattie Hand, Eva and Gussie Brown, and Arthur and Lonnie Hand, and Chandler Chalkley attended a picnic at Howard Saturday. S.W. Anthony and family spent Saturday in Geneva. Miss Delma Bickley, of Howard, is spending this week with her sister, Mrs. S.W. Anthony. Miss Addie Baldwin, of Talbotton, opened school here Monday. Henry Johnson was in Juniper Saturday. Miss Verda Moultrie, of Waverly Hall, has accepted a music class at Dundee and is progressing very nicely. Mrs. J.W. Spear, of Columbus, is here for several days visiting relatives. Many of our people attended the all day meeting at Philippi Sunday. Mr. Young Williams, of Greenville, has been visiting his brother, Charles, for several days. Mr. William Chapman and wife spent Saturday night and Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.D. McMickle. Mrs. J.J. Hendricks and sons, Ausie and Cecil, of near Brantley, spent Saturday and Sunday with her daughter, Mrs. J.H. Spear. Perry There was a dove shooting near Rabbit Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Montgomery visited friends and relatives in Rabbit Friday. A large crowd attended preaching at New Life Saturday and Sunday. Rev. Grimsley filled his regular appointment at New Life Saturday and Sunday. Miss Nettie Powell was quite sick Wednesday. Miss McDaniel will begin her school here Monday. Messrs. T.P. Mr. and Mrs. David Wicker, of Americus, visited her parents here Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Joe Persons, of Moultrie, came up Monday to be with home folks several days. Messrs. Rogers Williams, of Ellaville, and Turner Williams, of Buena Vista, were here on business Monday. Miss Jeffie Persons, of Macon, came Sunday and started her school Monday. Misses Atta Belle Gresham and Minta Kilcrease and Mr. S.E. Wiggins attended the picnic at Idavesper Saturday. Mr. Gresham, of Macon, came Sunday to spent several days with his son, Mr. W.R. Gresham. Mr. W.C. Bailey, of Columbus, was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Persons Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brown, of Draneville spent Saturday and Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Brown. Mr. Howell Eason, of Oglethorpe, visited a maiden fair here Sunday. Mrs. George McCrary and Mrs. Aldine Pickard, of Buena Vista, spent Friday here with relatives. Miss Rubie Lee Persons spent several days last week with Miss Willie Clare Pickard at Tazewell. Mrs. Wm. Hair, of Buena Vista, spent Wednesday night with her brother, Mr. J.S. Rogers. A party of eleven young people were most delightfully entertained on Friday evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Persons, in honor of Mrs. Persons sister, Miss Grace King, of Box Spring. The apartment open to the guests were decorated with vases of beautiful roses and ferns. Delicious refreshments were served and merry games played during the evening. Those present were Misses Grace King, Pearl Brown, Atta Belle Gresham, Minta Kilcrease, Annie and Mildred Collum, Messrs. S.E. Wiggins, George Brown, Glenn Boland, George Persons and Edwin Rogers, of Buena Vista. The Doyle Sunday school will picnic at Knowlton's mill Saturday (tomorrow) and everybody has a special invitation to come and bring well filled baskets, for we are expecting to enjoy the day. Mrs. Willis Wiggins and son, Laz, went to Preston Monday night to see her mother, who is very sick. Rev. C.M. Meeks, of Cataula, who was our pastor for two years, and Rev. Blevins, of Columbus, were with friends here Thursday morning. Mr. George Persons, of Buena Vista, was here on business Tuesday. At County Line, two miles away, it rained very little in five weeks and the crops are suffering. There is very little fruit in this section. What few peaches we have are affected with worms and hardly fit to eat. Mrs. Valona Duke and Miss Nora Harris, of Pineville, visited their parents here Saturday and Sunday. Mr. W.H. Weed and family visited relatives in Chattahoochee County Saturday. The church at County Line will hold its annual meeting Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 15, 16 and 17. Robin Hood
