I thought we should try to find out more about the National Historic places listed for Marion County. If anyone has some ideas about how to do this, please do help us out!! This is the one that Norma Wilkinson has been trying to get a photo of. (She's going to share more about the families.... but now I'm curious about who really put this on the National Registry and more about the history. I believe that the Registry would have a history -- does anyone know??) When I looked for Friendship on the map... I noticed that there was one for Sumter County (not too far from the Marion Co border). Could this be the location --- or perhaps it is IN Marion, but with a post office for Sumter?? (don't know if that is likely though) ===== Since this one was added in 1984 (that's so recent, you'd think we could find out more about it).... I'm guessing that Champion is the first owner -- 1825 -- if this is correct this was even before the 1827 land lottery... 1825-1849, 1850-1874, 1875-1899 (these are the DATES listed) Champion-McGarrah Plantation (added 1984 - Building - #84001156) Also known as Merritt Farm Off GA 30, Friendship Historic Significance: Event, Architecture/Engineering Architectural Style: Greek Revival Area of Significance: Agriculture, Architecture Period of Significance: 1825-1849, 1850-1874, 1875-1899 Owner: Private Historic Function: Agriculture/Subsistence, Domestic Historic Sub-function: Agricultural Outbuildings, Secondary Structure, Single Dwelling Current Function: Agriculture/Subsistence, Domestic Current Sub-function: Single Dwelling
