LeRoy Hirshburg on Tuesday, the 4th, in honor of his 57th anniversary of his birth. It was a happy occasion not only a surprise dinner, but a family reunion, with every member of the family present except one son, Edgar, and his wife, Blanche, now in Muncie, Ind. Tuesday was an ideal day, and Mrs. Hirshburg and her daughters, Mrs. W.A. Drane and Mrs. T.B. Rainey, who had planned the occasion, had everything ready, so that when Mr. Hirshburg arrived home at noon he found plenty of company and a pleasant surprise. All his children, with one exception, once more at home, together with his sons- in-law, Dr. W.A. Drane and Col. T.B. Rainey, and all the grandchildren except one, the little daughter of his son, Edgar and wife. The dinner was exceptionally fine, and an abundance of it, with ice cream following, and with father at the head of the table and mother at the foot, it was a dinner that was greatly enjoyed. A fine rocking chair, selected for ease and comfort, was presented to Mr. Hirshburg by his children, and it was an occasion that will ever be remembered. All present wishes Mr. Hirshburg many more years of successful life and the pleasure of many more such happy birth anniversaries. The names of those present are Dr. and Mrs. W.A. Drane, Col. and Mrs. T.B. Rainey, Messrs. Virgil and LeRoy Hirshburg, Jr., Miss Elizabeth Drane, little Misses Agnes and Charlotte Johnson and Irma, Allene and Spear Rainey. Dr. B.P. Short, of Newton and Messrs. W.S. and L.F. Short, of Shellman, together with Mr. H.S. Short, of Brantley, and Hon. W.B. Short and Mr. J.B. Short, of Buena Vista all met at the home of their father, Rev. W.J. Short, near Brantley. It was the first time all six brothers had met together at the old home place in 18 years, and was a day of happy reunion that will ever be remembered by them. These gentlemen have all been quite successful in their business and professional careers and their homecoming was a delight to their venerable father, who, like the mother of the Gracchi when shown a beautiful casket full of jewels by a haughty Roman lady, pointed to her distinguished sons and modestly said, these are my jewels, doubtlessly felt that his six noble sons are more to be prized than all the diadems of the earth.
