In "The History of Madison County Georgia" by Paul Tabor, 1974, page 142 "In 1938 (should be 1838) Hannah and Rose, slaves of George Bragg, were found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 50 lashes on bare back and brand M on left cheek." Who did they murder? I would be interested in any information about this event and the people involved. Perhaps there is African-American oral tradition about this event that would be very interesting. Same book and page "In 1842 William Thompson was shot and killed by Philip owned by George Bragg with Levi, slave of William Thompson assisting. Both were found guilty of murder and were hung for it." At the time of the murder, Frankey Berryman Thompson, wife of William Thompson had filed for a divorce which was dismissed after William's death.
