My 4th ggfather, Edward Denney, operated a ferry across the North Fork of the Broad River in the late 1700's and early 1800's. The ferry has long since vanished but I am interested in finding the site. According to some old maps, the road on the Madison County side leading to the site was named Courthouse Road. Does anyone have any information about this road. Is it still passable? Can I get to the river ? I have heard that the Elbert County side is very difficult to travel.Iunderstand that in 1969 the remains of the ferryman's house was still on the land near the river on the Madison County side. Edward Denney owned acreage on both side of the river but the land was sold by his heirs in the 1800's. Thanks for any help.
