Jeanne, There's a web page for the University of Georgia in Athens. In there, there's a page about the Georgia Newspaper project. You may want to check that because I think they have their holdings listed for the newspapers and dates that they have on microfilm. I don't remember seeing anything that old for the Madison area. The oldest paper from Madison is the Danielsville Monitor, and I think it starts around 1890? Also the Comer News a little later. The Oglethorpe Echo and the Elberton Star have copies from the 1870s I believe. I wonder if the Athens paper went back that far? I have no idea about Royston. Sure would be neat to find a write up about that! I posted an obituary of my gg grandfather on the Banks County page. He fell into a fire. They left none of the details out! I found his obituary in the 1894 Jackson Herald. Let me know if you find any papers in our area that old. Scott
