The Georgia Black Book states that my ancestor John Ledbetter was murdered February 24, 1879 in Madison County Georgia by a Jordan Sheats. It gives no further details. Was there a newspaper in Madison County then? Do copies exist? Is it possible to look up anything about the case and what was done with the murderer? What is the county seat? The 1879 Elberton Gazatte is on microfilm at the University of Ga.
