Looking for information on the Wells Family. John H. Wells was my wife's Great Grandfather. He had a brother named Preston. They were both born in the late 1850's. I know that John married Margaret (Maggie) Bryson. I have a copy of their marriage license and several property transactions which involve their family. I even have a death certificate on John, but his parents are not listed. Preston died much later, and I was hoping to find additional information about his family, but have been unable to find out exactly when or where he died. He is said to have lived to be almost 100 years old. Some of the family remember him, but have not been able to help me locate him. The 1860 Census of Madison County shows that their parents were James and Mary Wells. I found a Marriage License of a James Wells and a Mary Graham who were married August 10, 1856. This fits perfectly with the birth dates of Preston and John. By 1870, both Preston and John H. are living with other families. Don't know what happened to James and Mary. James could have been killed in the Civil War, and Mary could have died in childbirth. Would like to know what happened to them. John H. was raised in the home of John F. & Susan Barnett. Susan had a sister who never married that was named Harriett Hardeman. (Sometimes spelled Hardman) Preston was raised in the home of Malachia and Millissa Davis. Harriett Hardeman shows up in one census living in this household, which indicates that there was a family connection in here somewhere. That's another one of the things I'd like to find out.
