Stark, I don't find Elizabeth in my Stephens line, but it seems as if we should be connected through mutual Stephenses in Madison County. My line was in Madison County as early as 1820. I descend from Thomas and Deborah Stephens who were from Virginia. Their son, Haley Stephens, was born about 1779 in Virginia. He was my ggg grandfather. Thomas and Deborah also had a son named Joseph. It's possible they had daughters also, but I only know about these two sons. Haley married Catherine Brown in 1812 in Oglethorpe County. She died in 1826 and he married Susanna Freeman in 1827, also in Oglethorpe County. By his first wife, he had my gg grandfather, Zadoc Daniel Stephens, another male, and two or three daughters. Zadoc and his two families lived in Madison County. His first wife was Elmira Carruth. HIs second wife was Charity Frances Jones. This probably doesn't help you at all, but I guess it's possible that Thomas Stephens had a brother who started his family in NC. I have 10 Stephens listed in the 1820 Madison County census alone. Good luck with your search. Ladonna Viertel
