    3. Would you please post the link to the GAGenWeb Archives. Thanks. -----Original Message----- From: Mary Love Berryman [mailto:marylove@tyler.net] Sent: Saturday, January 29, 2000 8:29 PM To: GAMADISO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: 1870 Madison Co Index to Census Images We hope that you are enjoying the Madison County Census Images which have been put in the Madison County GAGenWeb Archives. If you have found errors in the index, please send these corrections to Rick Elliot Rick.Elliot@nsc.com We have extended the deadline for sending corrections in but get them in as quickly as you can. Our group has been plagued with illness and with the holidays we have not moved as quickly as we would like to. The 1880 Index is close to being finished but we could certainly use some help with the 1900, 1910 and 1920. The only way that these images can be located easily is to have an index. We need your help in accomplishing this. If you can help, please email me at marylove@tyler.net. Thank you very much. Mary Love Berryman

    1. Wells Family
    2. Ronald Wilson
    3. Looking for information on the Wells Family. John H. Wells was my wife's Great Grandfather. He had a brother named Preston. They were both born in the late 1850's. I know that John married Margaret (Maggie) Bryson. I have a copy of their marriage license and several property transactions which involve their family. I even have a death certificate on John, but his parents are not listed. Preston died much later, and I was hoping to find additional information about his family, but have been unable to find out exactly when or where he died. He is said to have lived to be almost 100 years old. Some of the family remember him, but have not been able to help me locate him. The 1860 Census of Madison County shows that their parents were James and Mary Wells. I found a Marriage License of a James Wells and a Mary Graham who were married August 10, 1856. This fits perfectly with the birth dates of Preston and John. By 1870, both Preston and John H. are living with other families. Don't know what happened to James and Mary. James could have been killed in the Civil War, and Mary could have died in childbirth. Would like to know what happened to them. John H. was raised in the home of John F. & Susan Barnett. Susan had a sister who never married that was named Harriett Hardeman. (Sometimes spelled Hardman) Preston was raised in the home of Malachia and Millissa Davis. Harriett Hardeman shows up in one census living in this household, which indicates that there was a family connection in here somewhere. That's another one of the things I'd like to find out. The skeletal outline of this family would go like this... Marlene Moore Wilson Minnie Neal Wells Moore Thomas Joe Wells - June 24, 1888 (Joe had a brother named Jesse) John H. Wells - January 1859 James Wells - abt. 1836 (May have had a sister named Rebecca - his mother may have been Nancy Crisswell) I would certainly appreciate any help you can give on this family. 3. DIED.--In Madison County, Ga. on the 4th inst. of consumption, Mr. Jasper B. Pittman, in the 25th year of his age. In the death of Mr. Pittman, Madison County has been bereft of one of its best citizens. He was at the time of his death clerk of the Superior Court of Madison County and his official duties were discharged tot he perfect satisfaction of all. When told that he must die, he said he was ready and felt perfectly reconciled to the will of God. Besides his family, Mr. Pittman leaves a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn his untimely loss. May his bereaved family and friends find consolation in the hope that he has gone to a better and brighter world on high. Peace to his ashes! H.S.B. (Southern Banner, Athens, GA Thurs. 10-14-1858)

    3. I would like to subscribe to the Madison County Researchers Mailing List. I am researching my Great, Great, Great Grandparents (Tillman Anderson & Martha Baxter) Parents. I have requested a copy of a Marriage Certificate for Tillman Anderson & Martha Baxter married 8/24/28 in Madison County GA. I am trying to find their parents. There are (4) Andersons in the 1830 Census for Madison County: James, John S., Terrel, and Jacob. I cannot determine which if any is the Father of Tillman. I am somewhat confident that one must be his Father because Martha's Father, Nathaniel Baxter, was on the 1830 Census for Madison County GA. Thanks Keith Anderson, andkandk@TDS.net

    3. We are glad to announce that the 1870 Census Images are now on line. These have been placed there by S/K Publications and a group of volunteers listed on the page. This same group of volunteers has indexed a full name census with age and image number for your convenience. It also includes soundex provided by Rick Elliot so that you can find your ancestors names who may be incorrectly spelled. We have already found errors in some of the names. Would you help us out by looking at the names that you know and letting us know where we have errors? We want to stay as closely as we can to what it actually says on the census (which is sometimes wrong) but many times if you know what it SHOULD say, it is much easier to read. We can not continually ask the Archives Volunteers to make changes but we will ask them to do it ONCE. Please send your corrections to Rick Elliott before January 25, 2000 - our deadline for corrections. We will be most happy to do the best we can. We want this index and the ones for 1900, 1910 and 1920 to be as accurate as we can but we need your help to do that! Thanks to all of you who have written thanking us for this service - this is how you can help. Let's all work together to make Madison County Research Available and Accurate! 3. Hello all..I am sure there are many others out there researching the family of Abner Jackson Thompson. I noticed on the 1880 MC Census that his family is listed. There is a daughter listed as Martha M. Thompson that bears the same age bracket as Cintha E. Thompson who is listed as his child in the MC cemetery book. The name Cintha E. Thompson is not listed with him on the 1880 census. Any ideas as to whether or not these two girls are the same or some other explanation? 3. I thought this was worth sharing with all of you researchers. A PRIVILEGE The "grand" in front of the title of parent simply means a parent higher in rank. Parent is a word that means to produce or maintain. Being a grandparent means one has been promoted in rank, given more entitled authority to maintain what has been produced. By J.
