Frances (Diamond) Strickland , experienced the travil of her husband, Solomon Strickland, siring a baby by her niece, brother William's daughter, Margaret (Peggy). The charge was statuary rape, indicating the girl was fourteen or younger. The charge was brought by Peggy's father, William Diamond, and Solomon Strickland was judged guilty. (Jasper County, Georgia Superior Court 98461, 1811, Location 179-1-1 Box 38 Loc. 4284-34) The child was Elijah Strickland, born 13 July 1809. He married Bethany Smith Sept 26, 1832 in Henry County, Georgia. In the census of 1850 he is farming in that county, is age 41, wife 38, and they have six children. Her father was Richard Drake - I do not know her mother's name. I think Richard DRAKE's parents were Joseph and Mary DRAKE. Posted on: Madison Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Madison/122 Surname: HOUSE DUDLEY STEPHENS HERRING ------------------------- Denise, I saw that Elizabeth was a Dudley, do you know who her parents were? Do you have a date of birth on her? I am a descendant of James L. Dudley b. abt. 1804 and his wife Mary. We have found out that they had at least 9 children. They had a child named Eliza (this gotten from census records so, it could have been Elizabeth.) They also had another child, Barnett Dudley b. abt. 1849. Maybe the Dudley's and Barnetts connected prior to the union of Elizabeth and Bee. My Dudley line resided in Madison County until after the War Between the States and then relocated to Craighead County, Arkansas. I would like to hear from you.
There is a Madison County Heritage Foundation. Charlotte Bond and Jennie Ruth Echols have been active in it for many years. You could probably write to them at Danielsville, GA and they would get it. They don't have email. Madison County is also part of the East Georgia Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 117, Winder, GA 30680 - Web site: www.rootsweb.com/~gaeggs - E-mail: gaeggs@email.com. They have a very fine publication called Georgia Settlers. Mary Love Berryman ----- Original Message ----- From: Nancy A. Posted on: Madison Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Madison/119 Surname: Westbrook, Smith, Cromer ------------------------- I wonder why my Madison County Westbrooks changed from being Methodists to being Presbyterians. My ggpa was Jesse Glenn Westbrook, who is buried at Trinity Methodist Church near Cromer's Mill, Georgia. My gpa was Robert Johnson Westbrook, M.D., who is buried at Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church in Ila, Georgia. His brother George Washington Westbrook, M.D., is buried conspicuously in the same cemetery. Did they switch churches because of something that happened during Reconstruction? Or was it just a matter of convenience? I'd appreciate any information or intelligent comments. Best regards, Robert Haynes Son of Sarah George Westbrook Haynes
