Posted on: Madison Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Madison/179 Surname: DUDLEY ------------------------- Several of us believe that Willis was the son of James L. Dudley & Polly Hendrick. We need proof that he was their son. If so, he would have been a brother to my GGG Grandfather Lemuel Dudley. I have a letter that Lemuel wrote June 12, 1862 to his wife during the War Between the States. (These letters are soon to be posted on the Madison County Genweb site.) He mentions that Willis went home and Lawson another brother is sick. This is one reaspon we suspect Willis is a brother. Another reason, Willis is listed living very close to James L. on the 1850 Madison County census. I have a birthdate of about 1827 for Willis, this taken from that same census. (James & Polly were married in 1825.) I thought that maybe wife Elizabeth was a Porterfield but was not for certain. I have listed 1 daughter, Frances for them and this was from the same census. I just started working seriously on my Dudley family about a year ago. I have taken a break after the holidays and have not gotten back into it like I should. I would like to hear what you think about a possible connection between Lemuel and Willis.

Because of county line changes, it is a bit difficult trying to word exactly what I am looking for and in what definite location. Here goes for one more time: I am seeking the records of the older Hebron Presbyterian Church in Franklin Co.GA. The old Hebron church existed from 1706 to 1802 when the new Hebron Presbyterian Church was started on the other side of the James McCarter plantation. These churches were a part of the Hopewell Presbytery of Wilkes Co. GA Hebron Church sponsored several churches in the surrounding area including Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church in Ila, Ga. Could someone tell me if the records for the old Hebron church can be found? Where would these records have gone, if a new church was built? Anita
A correction should be made to my previous posting: John "Jack" Freeman gave the land for the old church and I am seeking the burial site for John and his family. His son, David P. Freeman, was on the building committee for the new church. This should read: D. R. Freeman, of the building committee of the new church, is a possible grandson of John "Jack" Freeman. Sorry, Anita
I am seeking the records of the older Hebron church that was before the Mt. Hermon Church that was built in 1912 in Ila, GA. John "Jack" Freeman gave the land for the old church and I am seeking the burial site for John and his family. His son, David P. Freeman, was on the building committee for the new church. Apparently, these two Hebron churches were built on the old McCarter plantation. Could someone tell me if the records for the old Hebron church can be found? Where would these records have gone, if a new church was built? Anita

Hi, Nancy and everyone, I'm not kin to the Longs, but since Crawford Williamson Long achieved such a monumental feat in using ether for anesthesia, I wonder if anyone can tell me why he is listed as dying in Comfort, Texas, in 1888. My encyclopedia entry reads "Long, Crawford Williamson (b. Nov. 1, 1815, Danielsville, Ga. U.S.--d. June 16, 1878, Athens,Ga.)." _The New Encyclopedia Britannica_, Micropaedia, Vol. 7, Chicago 1990, p.462. Were his remains moved to Texas? Was there another Crawford W.? I'd really like to know. I happened to spend a couple of days in Comfort a few years ago. It would be a nice location for the grave of the man who helped do away with so much pain. Any information would be appreciated. Hi, all, In some of my family papers I found a page titled "Sons and Daughters of Parmenus Williams." Nine children are listed, beginning with Dawson Williams, who married Rebecca Strickland. Following this list is a section headed "Son and Daughters of Dawson Williams," which includes four children, of whom the first listed is Joseph, who is said to have married Desdemona Brown. Next on the list are the seven children of Joseph and Desdemona. This list begins with Ann, who married Lloyd Smith. I believe these folks are my great-grandparents, if Ann was Rebecca Ann Williams and Lloyd was William Lloyd Smith. No dates are listed on the page, and I can't personally vouch for any of the information, but, for what it's worth, there it is. I think my uncle Lloyd Westbrook of Ila, Georgia, compiled this material. His mother Desdemona Smith Westbrook was William Lloyd Smith's daughter. I'd appreciate hearing any corrections or further information. Hope this helps someone, Robert Haynes
