PROBATE RECORDS -April 1860-- containing surnames: SHEATS, RICHARDSON, PORTERFIELD, STREETMAN, BRIDGES & SMITH I ordered some Madison County probate records regarding Streetmans, and received the following. It is written in a clerk's handwriting, parts of which are illegible [thus, I insert __________ (?) and (my best guess at what it seems to say)]. The word "fifa" is unfamiliar to me. I do not know its meaning, so would be grateful if someone could interpret it.--Heidi Streetman Probate record 214 Madison County, GA B.S. SHEATS Vs. R.W. RICHARDSON Mortgage fifa from Clark County Inferior Court April Term 1860 Principal H99016 Interest 184 Cost Upon motion of Counsel for plaintiff it is ordered that the deputy sheriff John W. PORTERFIELD return said fifa into Court and show cause __________ (?) why he should not pay over to plaintiff or his attorney the amount of principal and interest on said fifa. I acknowledge due and legal service of the above rule and _____________(waive?) copy and all other service as notice 10 July 1860. Upon hearing the foregoing rule and the answer thereto no sufficient cause being shown to the contrary it is ordered by the court that the said deputy sherriff pay over to the plaintiff or his attorney the principal and interest of said fifa. Ordered that the sum of twelve dollars be paid into the hands of James L. DUDLEY for the use and support of Mary E. BRIDGES and orphan child and pauper of said county up to the next January term of the inferior court. Ordered that the sum of ten dollars be paid into the hands of M. M. SMITH for the use and support of a deformed child of Francis STREETMAN up to the next January term of said court.

Hi Everyone, The new Madison County GaGenWeb pages are now online. All the same stuff is there, just in a different layout -- plus a couple of new things. Take a minute to explore and get your bearings: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gamadiso/ Also... this mail list will soon be "gatewayed" to the Madison County Message Board at Rootsweb. That means that when someone strolls into the message board and posts a query, their message will be sent through the list where you can read it in the comfort of your own mailbox. While working on these pages, I've been reminded of what a great bunch of people we have on this list! So many of you have contributed such great stuff to the archives and you have made Madison County a gold mine of online info! Give yourselves a pat on the back! Jeanne Arguelles ejarguelles@msn.com

Hi All, I will be creating a new Surname list for the Madison County GaGenWeb Page. Please email me your Madison County surnames, your name (first & last) and your email address and I will add them to the list. Please email me directly at ejarguelles@msn.com so as not to bombard the list with a ton of mail. (Everyone will be able to view your surnames when the list is online). Also, if you have a website that includes info on Madison County families, and would like a link included on the Madison Co GaGenWeb site, please send me the URL, the title of the page, and the main Madison Co surnames that appear on your page. The new pages will be up soon! I'll let you know when they're ready! Thanks! Jeanne Arguelles ejarguelles@msn.com

I have a copy of some of the elders sessions from New Hope Presbyterian Church in Madison Co. It does have a list of members, some baptismals and some marriages. The dates are 1838 to about 1860. There is also a brief history of the church. I have about 50 pages. If anyone would like some of the information, please let me know. Glenda in TX
