Howdy All, In case you haven't heard... There's a wonderful website called "Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness" at www.raogk.org This site has a listing of volunteers who will do various genealogical "services" in the counties where they live, such as photographing tombstones, copying records at the courthourse, looking up obituaries, etc. These are not professional researchers; just regular folks like us who enjoy lending a hand when they can. I volunteer here in Texas and have really enjoyed it... I devote one day a month (sometimes more, when I can) to visiting the courthouse, library or cemeteries. And just yesterday, I received my ggg-grandfather's obituary from a volunteer in Canada. If you need a photo or a look-up in a far away location, check it out and see if there's a volunteer listed. And if you have some time to spare to help a fellow researcher, consider volunteering in your home county! Jeanne Arguelles ejarguelles@msn.com
I believe these are the first 1930 Census Images to be uploaded to the GAGenWeb Archives. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/madison/census/1930/ for free use! Thanks to Jeanne Arguelles, Mary Love Berryman, Stepanie Bradley, Rick Elliott, Jerry Smith and S/K Publications for making this possible. We will be making an index. Howdy All, Bettie Wood, creator of the Georgia Family Group Sheet Project, has come up with another wonderful resource for us... the Georgia Photo Album! Hi, All-- I am new to this list and looking for information on the family of William EVANS (b. 1780-90) and Celia LEVERETT. I don't know much about this William EVANS, but I believe him to be the son of David and Mary Harris EVANS of Wilkes County, GA. William appears on both the 1820 and 1830 Madison County Federal Censuses, married with children. Also, an LDS entry indicates that a William EVANS married a Celia LEVERETT in Madison County, GA in 1801. Can anyone help me out a little here. Walt Boswell walterboswell1@knology.net

Looking for info on James Bell, born c1794. He married 2nd to Catherine Hodge on 29 Dec 1836 in Madison Co. He had a nephew John Bell of Hall Co. who married Jane Thompson on 15 Nov 1838 in Madison Co. According to "Sketches of the Early History of Madison County, Georgia" by Rev. Groves H. Cartledge, Jim Bell left his 2nd wife (Katie Hodge) to take up and run off to North Carolina with Mrs. Thompson, the murderess. [Mrs. Thompson is Frances Penn "Franky" Berryman who married William Thompson in 1830. William was shot & killed in 1842, and two slaves were found guilty of the murder. Franky was also arrested for murder (of whom?) but no further record has been found about her case]. This is probably James Bell and Franky on the 1850 census in NC: 1850 Census Cherokee County, North Carolina Murphy Town, Page 24 James Bell - 56 - Blacksmith - NC Francis Bell - 38 - NC John Bell - 17 - NC Melissa Bell - 17 - NC Caroline Bell - 16 - NC Nancy Bell - 15 - NC Eliza A. Bell - 14 - NC Elizabeth Bell - 11 - NC Minerva Bell - 9 - NC Giles Bell - 3 - NC Melissa, Nancy, Eliza A., Elizabeth and Minerva are actually Thompsons, children of William and Franky (Berryman) Thompson. Are John and Caroline the children of James Bell by one of his earlier marriages? Is Giles Bell the child of James Bell and Franky (Berryman) Thompson? By 1860, at least two of Franky's children (Elizabeth and Minerva) are back in Madison & Hart County, GA. In 1880, Giles Bell is in Fannin Co, GA, married with 2 kids.
