    1. Robert Asbury Carrouth 1848-1922
    2. Hello, I'd like to invite you to view a picture and short genealogy of Robert Asbury Carrouth (1848-1922). He is the earliest ancestor I have a picture of. He was a 3rd great grandson of James Carruth who died in 1728 in Antrim Co., Ireland. I believe this picture was probably taken about 1920 by a traveling photographer. On the back of the picture is a name, drawer number, and town probably where the photographer resided (Birmingham, Ala.). Affectionately known to my father as Grandpa Bob, Robert was my grandfather's grandfather and lived most of his life between Madison County and Elbert County, Georgia. His grandfather, Adam Carruth ran a mill in Madison Co., Ga. called Carruths Mill. Robert's great grandfather, also named Robert Carruth, moved from Rutherford Co., N.C. in abt. 1792 to the area then known as Wilkes Co., Ga. He lived in Madison Co. at the time of his death in 1815 with his home being on Blue Stone Creek. There's a link to a picture of Robert Asbury Carrouth (1848-1922) at: <A HREF="http://www.bnpages.com/hobbies/carrouth/index.html">http://www.bnpage s.com/hobbies/carrouth/index.html</A> If the link above does not come through for you, try and copy one of the addresses below to place in your internet address area. http://www.bnpages.com/hobbies/carrouth/index.html http://www.bnpages.com/hobbies/carrouth/page9.html Look for the link that says, "Grandpa Bob Carrouth (Robert Asbury Carrouth born in 1848)." Best wishes, Harvey Carrouth

    1. Deligance of Glascow (1729) found in New Jersey Wills
    2. Hello, I'm posting this information on the ship "Deligance of Glascow" in hopes someone else has more information they can share with me about it. My 7th great grandfather, James Carruth, is thought to of been born in Dumbarton, Scotland. He died in Antrim County, Ireland in 1728. His sons Walter and Adam (my 6th great grandfather) immigrated to America in 1729. In the State of New Jersey, Calendar Of Wills book, Volume XXIII (23), I found their immigration ship referenced on page 203 & 204 with the date of 30 Jan. 1729. The reference was for the will of "Hamlton, Hamplton, Hamleton, John" (name as recorded in book) from Minimor Co., of Londonderry who wrote his will while on board the ship. His three children (Mary, Alexander, and James - all under age) were to be cared for by Robert Brown (guardian of children). Walter Caruth was executor and witnesses were Adam Carruth, Rob't Davison, and James Taylor (all names as recorded in the book). The will was proved 22 Sept. 1729 and John died at Pens Neck (now possibly Pennsville, Salem County, N.J.). I have seen this ship also listed as Deligence of Glascow and Deligance of Glasgow. There is also a reference to this ship in the book "Carolina Cradle" written by Ramsey referring to the arrival of "Robert Davidson." This reference is found on page 46 in note number 148. I also have seen this ship listed as arriving at the Port of Philadelphia. I'm looking to verify the information I have that is not included in the above will and hope someone can provide information on this ship as to where it departed from and who else may have been on it. I know this is not a ship list, but the information here is in reference to my scots-irish ancestors who immigrated to Lancaster Co. (now Dauphin Co.), Pa. then Augusta Co., Va. and finally to the Coddle Creek area of Anson Co. (becoming Rowan and now Iredell Co.). Adam Carruth's son Robert moved on from N. Carolina to first Wilkes Co., Ga. and then Oglethorpe Co., Ga. His home ended up being in Madison Co., Ga. after this county was formed. I hope someone sees some names they can connect to here as I know I was sure happy to find the above will. Thanks for any help any of you may be to me on this subject. Best wishes, Harvey Carrouth

    3. I am posting this to warn others about problems with ; Census Microfilm Expeditors 476 E. South Temple , Suite 4 Salt Lake City , UT 84111 website ; www.censusmicrofilm.com e-mail ; gme@nwinfo.net and ; sj@censusmicrofilm.com I was lured to order several microfilm copies from this company with "guarantees" of "speedy delivery" and "low price" . My order was placed in October of 1998 and as of this posting I have not received the order or a refund after numerous contacts with Steven Jensen at this firm . In his occasional replies he repeatedly gave false information to me as to the status of the order and cashed the check when mentioned stopping payment on it .I have copies of all documents and correspondences for those interested . Complaints have been filed with the Better Business Bureau and the United States Postal Inspectors , they have informed me that even they can't order this company to give a refund , but may seek criminal charges . I guess small claims court is next . If you are seeking genealogy resources......consider my experiences with this "Firm". Thank you , Kenneth Sartin researching ; Sartin , Sartain , Sarton , Sarten , Sardin etc. etc.

    3. Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness Movement http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnstewar/genkin.htm a way to find what you need in any county of the United States at cost- just pass it on! Welcome to Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. This movement was begun by the Coordinators and researchers of the Stewart County, Tennessee TnGenweb site, but it is a movement for genealogists everywhere...and one we hope will grow very rapidly. Basically, it is not a great deal different from what internet researchers do every single day in great unselfish acts...sharing of information...BUT it has one decided difference. THE VOLUNTEERS OF THIS MOVEMENT ARE AGREEING ONCE PER MONTH TO EITHER VIDEOTAPE CEMETERIES (Homeplaces, etc.) OR DO LOOK-UPS OF INFORMATION IN THE COUNTY or area of a COUNTRY (IF OTHER THAN U.S.A.) THEY LIVE WHETHER OR NOT THEY HAVE ANCESTRAL TIES. Because the idea is that a person can spare one time per month to go out into the area they live to unselfishly provide information to another far from home, this makes volunteering and giving of oneself much easier-it also means that if we can obtain one person living in each county of the United States, as well as folks from other countries, to volunteer for this once per month, our odds of obtaining what we need anywhere we need to look go up tremendously! Information for Potential Volunteers: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnstewar/genkin.htm

This has been my 'brick wall" for 15 years . I'm just about ready to give up hope. Thank you for reading this message, and if by chance it generates a response, I will consider myself blessed. 1. Gilberts in Madison Co.
    2. John Gilbert
    3. Greetings, Looking for information on William Crawford Gilbert and his ancestors. I have the following information: William Crawford Gilbert (b. 13 Apr 1820/GA, d. 12 Mar 1892/Abbeville, MS.) Married on 29 Dec 1842 in Madison County, GA to: Tylitha E. Hampton (b. 26 Jun 1821/GA, d. 27 Jun 1874/Abbeville, MS.) Three of WC and TE's children were born in GA. They were: Augustus Harris Gilbert (b. 27 Sep 1844/GA.) Reason Meadows Gilbert (b. 28 Dec 1845/GA.) George H. Gilbert (16 Oct 1848/GA.) WC had at least one older brother, Augustus H. Gilbert (b. ca.1819/GA.) WC and TE, their children, and WC's brother migrated to Abbeville, MS in 1849. The Madison County 1820 & 1830 censuses show a John Gilbert living in the county. The family makeup and number indicate that this could be the father of WC. No county census record of the family past 1830, though WC was married there in 1842. Also, MS records indicate that the WC Gilbert family was Methodist. Any information you can provide on this family would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. John Gilbert jgilbert63@yahoo.com
