Ga Query Forum Post > Macon Co. Ga Query Forum > A new message, "Moses Hill - Barnes Family," was posted by Keith on Wed, > 07 Feb 2001 It is a response to "Barnes Bible page re Moses HILL & father, > John," posted by Barbara on Sun, 04 Feb 2001 > > Surname: Hill, Barnes, Herring, Barfield > > > > --- > NAME: Keith > EMAIL: > DATE: Feb 07 2001 > QRYTEXT: The Hill's of Robeson and the Barnes's are closely tied. Several of them married in Robeson and here in Georgia. As far as that goes, the Herrings were also intertwined in real estate deals in Robeson with the Hill's. And of course the Barfields. My point about Moses Hill dealt with that John Hill's brother Moses also came to Marion (later became Macon) and was listed in the 1830 census and had land adjoining my Archibald in the 1838 Macon Tax digest. He was listed in 1840 then either died or moved or just disappeared. > > The following is an interesting record that I obtained while researching the Hill family at the North Carolina State Archives in Raleigh. > > April 21, 1843 Page 181- From the Estate Records of Robeson County North Carolina 1840-1846, Nathan L. Williamson guardian of the minor Heirs of Atkinson Barnes, deceased. viz: Sarah Barnes, Aby Barnes, Malinda Barnes, & Atkinson P. Barnes. Bright Williams, administrator. Witnesses: T(imothy) Griffin, Joseph C. Lee, J. Floyd. > > This I found interesting because John Hill, son of Robeson Slaughter married Malinda Barnes August 03, 1858 in Macon County. I not sure if the birth date you listed for John Hill was written in error as 1808 but he was born about 1788 (varys a few years depending on which census you use) Malinda is 23 per the 1860 census. Her brother Atkinson (Adkinson) age 22 & sister Sarah B. age 25 are both listed as Idiots and living with the John Hill family. All three of them were born in the mid 1830's. > > There is an Elias listed in the 1850 Census in HH 368 age 43, or born about 1807. I doubt that this would be the brother of the above Adkinson? The age difference is to much in my humble opinion. Is there a listing somewhere for Adkinson Barnes, besides the one that lives with John Hill and his new bride, in any census in Macon? I have never seen evidence of one? Could the data listed in the history book be partially incorrect? I don't know, just food for thought. > > One other question I have is, where did the name John "Jack" Hill or Flint River Jack come from? I have never seen a document showing him as Jack? > > Any leads to these questions would be appreciated.. > > > This is an automatically-generated notice. > > <http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Macon?admin> > >
