I figure that the earlier census would be more accurate, since it was closer to the time they were born. (the aging process affects us all.) Either way, it was an important one for him to make. In 1880 the people enumerated included their birthstate as well as the birth state of their parents. In this case he listed Virginia for his parents. That really helps with a time line since his father Slaughter Hill was born before 1747 in Virginia. My evidence and theory on Slaughters age come from the fact that he was the executor of his fathers estate which was probated in 1768 in Halifax County North Carolina.
