    3. Forgive me for not my post that asked everyone to turn off their signatures. I thought everyone would know what a signature was and how you set them, turn them on and turn them off. Signatures are a part of the email program used and to find out how to use them just click on help while in your email program and then type in the word signature this should bring up all the information you need for signatures. Some programs do not have signatures. A signature is just like it sounds. Just as you sign your signature to the bottom of your email, signatures can be used to add the same information to the bottom of each email that is sent without you having to type the information over and over. Many use their web page address, if they are a county coordinator they may include all the county sites they are the cc for. You can set up many different signatures and select which one you need for the email you are sending. This is ok unless you are sending emails to a county or surname mail list. What happens is if you include all your surnames in your signatures the mail list archives saves the email messages and when you try to research the surname say Smith and you have placed the Smith in your signature, every message you ever wrote will be pulled even though it has no Smith information in the message. The search engine just looks for Smith in the text and then pulls the message for you. So all signatures that has surnames in them should not be sent in email lists to prevent this problem. This is a typical signature for a researcher. My surnames Glover, Evans, Paschal, Fowler, Gray, Frederick, McBride,Vining Which would really hurt my searching for those surnames since I would pull every message I have ever sent even though they have no information on those surnames. That is not the result that you want. So for that reason Rootsweb has always said no signatures on mail lists. The Help menu from your mail program will have all the information you need to set up your signatures. Hope this helps. Margie Ps. Also you can use the help menu to learn how to block junk mail. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
