CHEVES - There is much sadness among the Oglethorpe friends of Mr. O. C. Cheves, at his death which occurred at his home at Montezuma, Monday, after a lingering illness. Mr. Cheves, in the position of Cashier of the Lewis Banking Company, which he filled so long and faithfully, was one of the best known and most highly esteemed citizens of the county. For more than thirty years, he has, at intervals served his city as a member of the council, board of education and other positions of trust. He was also prominent in fraternal orders, being a distinguished member of the Masonic, Knights of Pythias and other lodges. He was a useful man and will be sadly missed. > He was laid to rest in Montezuma Tuesday with Masonic and Knights of pythias honors, a number of friends from Oglethorpe and other parts of the county joining the loved ones in a last sad tribute of love and respect. Mr. Cheves left a wife and one child, two brothers, Rev. A. J. Cheves, Mrs. E. B. Lewis of Montezuma, Mr. Jeff Cheves, Mrs. Gus Ansley and Mrs. Jackson of Forsyth. > [Note: Oliver C. Cheves - Born 1850 - Died 1910 is buried in Felton Cemetery beside and unmarked adult grave, most likely his wife, Mrs. O. C. [Mary] Cheves/Porter Born 1851 - Died 3-12-1932.. > > > This is an automatically-generated notice. > > <http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/MaconObits?admin> > >
