In my last post, I failed to mention that when I went to the church, I noted the 1st Salem Baptist Church just down the road past the old Traveler's Rest church. I encountered a very helpful, pleasant young woman, Latisha Beal, who was helping paint the interior of her church. She accompanied me in my search of the old graves in her churchyard and tried to help me in the older section adjacent to the old church. She indicated that her grandmother was buried from the old church in the 1980's, and that she had attended services there. We lamented the condition of the abandoned church. Unfortunately, I did not think to ask her if her church held the deed to the old property. Perhaps discovering that information might be a clue to an approach to appealing to the church to mount a clean-up campaign and perhaps an effort to "save" the sweet old church for it's historical value. I've thought many times about trying to correspond with Latisha Beal to explore the possibility of receiving donations toward that end; however, I failed to get her address or that of the church. Do you know whether the Historical Society might have an interest in exploring the historic value of the church? Thanks again for your continued interest. Dot Baker
