It is less than one mile from my house. It is off Ga. 127 but about 1/4 mile from Whitewater Creek. It is located in a thick hedgerow of trees right by where the old dirt road used to go but 127 is to the north of it about 200yards. I guess the roads changed over the years. I would be happy to take you to it if you want to see it. It is best to go in Winter because of snakes and Insects. I will have to get permission from James Barfield: The property belongs to him now, I believe. It use to belong to his father Mr. R. C. Barfield. Dan Shehee

The land is leased to a hunting club. We used to walk a footlog across Whitewater Creek and fish and hunt up and down the banks of the creek. This ,of course, was before the timber companies bought all the old family farms up. I will try in January to find it, when deer season is over. I know it was close to the old road bed and near where the old railroad was to go through from Southland to Miona Springs. There was a road bed built up for the railroad on both sides of the creek and the grave is on a slight hill side not far from the creek or the old road bed. Dan Shehee

I live on a farm in the southern part of Taylor County about 3 miles from Ideal. We always called the Southern side of the farm the Shepherd Place. It adjoins the Old Johnson Place which is owned by my uncle. Amos Johnson and his wife are buried on it. But, just across the Whitewater creek from our farm near where an old bridge once crossed Whitewater is a lone grave with the inscription P. G. Shephard. I have come across it while hunting. I turned it in to Mrs Childs years ago, but it has been so long since I was in there I have forgotten the dates on the grave. Dan S.

If the death date is correct, 1st wife, Lucretia, died May 1868. Source: Margie FULLERTON <MKFULLERTON@worldnet.att.net>. I have NOT seen the original marriage records, something that needs to be done to determine if in fact our William m. 4x or only 2x. If he m only 2x- then we have the question as to who was the other W R SHEPHERD. FWIW, in the Essie's book, p. 62 there is also a marriage: SHEPARD, Wiley B. to BELL, Mary M. 8-8-1858 by E.H. Wilson, MG. On p. 127, 18 Yes, I have thought, too, that the children *may* be of William Riley SHEPHERD (13 Jan 1831-23 Jan 1893). But did not think they could be by a third wife, Sally SMITH, as she would have been replaced by 4th wife, Mary Lucy ALLMON in 1877 and would only have been married to William May 1876-Nov 1877 - thus in 1884 William would have been married to 4th wife, Mary Lucy ALLMAN, when both these children were born. So, *if* these are indeed William's children, they would be by 4th wife[ 2nd], Mary Lucy ALLMAN/ALLMON. Nadine

Pleasant Green SHEPHERD (29 Jun 1835-03 Dec 1915 s/o Laban & Lavicy SHEPHERD) 1st wife, Anna Elizabeth JOHNSON was buried in this cemetery, along with three of their twelve children: Calista; Heny O.; Mary Elizabeth. Not sure who are the parents of the L. SHEPHERD (5 Jan 1884-10 Aug 1887) or Pleasant Green SHEPHERD (5 Aug 1884- 23 Aug 1884) both of who are buried in this cemetery. If the dates are correct, they could NOT be children of Pleasant Green SHEPHERD (29 Jun 1835-03 Dec 1915 s/o Laban & Lavicy SHEPHERD) and his 1st wife Anna Elizabeth JOHNSON as they had a son Henry O. born 6 Mar 1884.
