    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Jd.2ADE/1964.1 Message Board Post: Laura Seamon was my great-grandmother. I and my mother, Mary Frances Long Lott, daughter of Tommie Dwight and grand-daughter of Laura, are now in the process of retrieving Thomas H. Dwight's vault (?) and placing a headstone. He is buried next to Laura in the Pine Level Cemetery but his gravesite is sunken and no longer visible. Thomas Dwight was the beacon in my Mother's childhood and we are just now beginning a family search. I have some names and info, however limited at this point. Will you please respond? I would very much like to talk with you. Thanks.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Jd.2ADE/2084.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Please note my new e-mail address: Dcbaker9@aol.com I was thrilled to hear from you re Traveler's Rest Methodist Church. In my last post, I failed to mention that when I went to the church, I noted the 1st Salem Baptist Church just down the road past the old Traveler's Rest church. I encountered a very helpful, pleasant young woman, Latisha Beal, who was helping paint the interior of her church. She accompanied me in my search of the old graves in her churchyard and tried to help me in the older section adjacent to the old church. She indicated that her grandmother was buried from the old church in the 1980's, and that she had attended services there. We lamented the condition of the abandoned church. Unfortunately, I did not think to ask her if her church held the deed to the old property. Perhaps discovering that information might be a clue to an approach to appealing to the church to mount a clean-up campaign and perhaps an effort to "save" the sweet old church for it's historical value. I've thought many times about trying to correspond with Latisha Beal to explore the possibility of receiving donations toward that end; however, I failed to get her address or that of the church. Do you know whether the Historical Society might have an interest in exploring the historic value of the church? Thanks again for your continued interest. Dot Baker

I am not sure what kind of proof I can find by May 1 but I will tell you what I have, which I stumbled on while browsing the computer while on winter vacation. I also would like to send you now $20 that can be used for engraving if I come up with enough proof, and in any case for you to use for the monument as a thank you for all you have done in the past. Please email me directly with sending instructions. On ancestry.com Civil War Service Records I had found: Hafer, William Co B 12 (Robinson's) Georgia Cavalry. (State Guards) Lieutenant Lieutenant Confederate Elsewhere, I had found a reference to this Cavalry which listed at least a couple of men from Marshallville. It is this reference I am trying to now relocate via Cyndi's list. As I recall, it was only a fragment of the roster. I shall keep trying. My husband and I visited Marshallville again this past Jan., and the Macon co library (I signed the register!), Massee Gardens, Yoder restaurant, etc. Dr. Wm Hafer was the brother of my great grandfather; Harrison Hafer. Will and L of A records of his parents confirm he is the Wm Hafer in Marshallville. Estella Kling Johnson in upstate NY

The Travelers Rest Cemetery has been a great mystery for so long. I have tried so many times to go through this cemetery, thinking that possibly I can make it this time. A number of years ago I approached the Macon County Board of Commissioners about cleaning up this situation but at that time they had no resources, I was told. It is such a delicate treasure, it really should be done by someone who really cares about the history it holds. We were very FORTUNATE to have been given this list of burials to be printed in "Cemeteries of Macon County" by Mrs. Janet Williams who with a committee, surveyed the cemetery about 20 years prior, when it could be.

We are updating our Marshallville Veterans Monument which any person having been BORN IN, LIVED IN, or DIED IN Marshallville, along with $20.00 for engraving, is entitled to be placed on this Monument. My scanner is not connected today, but will be soon so that I can show you the Monument. It is located directly across in front of what is now, the Marshallville Public Library and Club House. It was in the 1850's, Dr. William Hafer's "Dwelling House with Out Buildings with a Store House, now occupied by William Hafer Shoe Shop, Doctor's Officew, Stable." This is all according to Deed Book A of Macon Co., Ga. Pg. 704 where on October 1, 1859, he sells to Conrad Murph. I do not find him as being connected with any Military Unit that I have access to. It was answered a while back but did not surface to our attention until Joan Hill found the following court case posted right under our noses: TAYLOR COUNTY Superior Court Records - 1859 File contributed to USGenWeb by Virginia Crilley crilley@eramp.net Transcribed from microfilm LDS #0321118 SUPERIOR COURT 1859 “Slaughter Hill sworn says he never bought a horse from John Barefield, has a brother named Arch Hill knows no other Arch Hill, did not sign the notes taht have been in exhibited to John Hudson always write his name and never made his mark. The notes aforementioned were ? read to the Jury by the prosection.” A lot more about the case is found at the link below. http://searches1.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/ga/taylor/court/superior3.txt It has been speculated for a long time that there was certainly a relationship between the two men, it is great to finally have proof. They were probably related to the Barfields in the case also. Thanks to Joan for locating it, and Many Thanks to Virginia Crilley for taking the time and effort to transcribe the record, one more Hill mystery is solved.
