Hi, Have reached a dead end after a very successful research streak, so hope someone has a clue to get me started again. I was born in Macon County and have a very special interest in tracking backwards to find out more about those family members from the area. 1. Leonidas Sherman GARDNER died 14 January 1902 married to Samantha Emerson DAVIS died August 1921 Both buried Old Lebanon cemetery at Grangerville her parents are believed to be William V DAVIS Caroline S TURNER Does anyone have confirmation or additional information especially any info on ancestors. 2. Samuel King JOHNSON b. 19 October 1838 Dooly County d 30 September 1915 Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Macon County parents Stephen JOHNSON and Ann O'STEEN Stephen died in Taylor Co. Ann is thought to have come from SC siblings William G Johnson, Stephen Thomas Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson married to Sara Francis BRADY b 13 February 1845 d 28 October 1927 Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Macon County parents Thomas W BRADY b 05 January 1800 d 12 December 1886 Brady Cemetery Elizabeth ?? b 11 April 1822 d 07 December 1893 siblings Robert C., Charlotte J, Mary E, Wesley G, William T, Susan C., Missouri, Joseph W, Georgia, Emmett, What was Elizabeth's last name? There was a reference to Thomas Brady as a Captain in a newspaper. He seems to have been too young for War of 1812 and too old for the Civil War. Was there a standing militia organization? Any suggestion on where to go next? If I plan a trip to Macon County where should I go to find genealogical records? Thanks Anne

I just recently became aware that there was both a Traveler's Rest Baptist and a Methodist church. My 2great grandfather Matthew H. Leggitt was an elder at one of them. I had assumed it to have been the Baptist since it was in the south. Matthew's wife Elizabeth was also a member of the church. Does anyone have a copy of the History of Macon County that could check it for me? Matthew is identified correctly in several references but misidentified as Nathan in a few places. I would certainly appreciate the effort. Roy and Darlene Leggitt, full-time RVers spending a couple weeks at Carolina Landing, SC.

I am very new to this and afraid, very incompetent. Yes, Mother and I were in Garden Valley last week and visited both cemeteries. Her mother, Tommie Dwight Long and her father, Willie R. Long, and brother, Dwight Long are all buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mother was raised in Garden Valley. I'm afraid I've waited too late to begin this seach. I know of no living relatives of Mother's other than second cousins who are my age. These are children of Mother's cousin, John Golden Simmons and 2 or 3 of them still live in Garden Valley. Mother, at age 84, has Alzhiemer's now and is very poor with names, etc.at this point. I believe she is related to the Ogburn family but I haven't a clue which side at this point. I have heard there is an old "library" (store, museum?) in Reynolds or Montezuma which is run by a local historian. Do you know if there is such a place? In any event, we will be speaking with the Goddard Funeral home in the next week about having Thomas Dwight's gravesite repaired and marked and I will let you know when that has occurred. Thanks again for your help. Anne Taylor
