2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Hunt, Bateman, Vinson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Jd.2ADE/2245.2282 Message Board Post: I have collected the following tidbits that may shed some light on this: Judkins Hunt & Martha Batte=>William Hunt & Elizabeth Bass=> Thomas Hunt(1800-75) & Sarah Pope(1803-47) & Mary Holland(1837-70) & Emily J Denton=> Elvira Hunt Rumph, Thomas Hunt II(1819-99), Ann E Hunt (1824-95), William Hunt(1824- ), John P Hunt(1834-1921), Jesse M Hunt(1841-1929), Francis M Hunt(1844-1925), Alexander J Hunt, Wilkins W Hunt and Henry P Hunt. Since the "Mr Hunt" was survived by his brothers Francis, Jesse & John P, he must have been one of the following: William, Alexander J, Wilkins W or Henry P Hunt. The Mary H Hunt (w/o T J Hunt) must have been Mary Holland(1837-70) w/o Thomas Hunt, and I suspect that the blank slab next to her was that of Thomas Hunt(1800-75). Since my Ancestor, William L Hunt, died in Oglethorpe, I am curious about a link to these Hunts. I have found reference to a Jesse Hunt who had a son, Seaborn Hunt. William L Hunt had a son named Seaborn. I wonder if this Jesse Hunt s/o Thomas, gs/o William & ggs/o Judkins could be the Jesse that had a son named Seaborn.

1. Re: [GAMACON] MARTIN in 1850
2. Hi Davine, Thanks for the 1860 Martin family! It does look like you say that Ann is (now a widow) from 1850, and the names of her children fit right in the same names of mine that went to AL. This gives me more hope that I will eventually tie my Willaim Martin in as a son of Joseph Sr. I had not expected to find the older Joseph Martin alive in 1860. Finding Joseph Sr before 1850 seems impossible. I know he did not just crawl out from a rock somewhere! I did get a lookup for a tax digest and recieved this from a very kind lady: 1852 Tax Digest of Macon Co., GA DISTRICT 757 - William Martin 1 Poll $274 Other $ Value - No property James Martin No Polls 150 acres Lot 224/2nd Dist. Macon Co. 200 acres Lot 153/5th Dooly Co., Ga. $1500 +$167 Other Jasper Martin 1 Poll - $152 Other $ value - No property This Jasper Martin would be mine, that went to AL. I have been looking for maps with land lots, which are very hard to find. I finally found one over at Taylor County which gives what looks like #224 in the 2nd, just over the line in Macon County. Is this correct? http://www.rootsweb.com/~gataylor/oldmap.htm#macon2 It looks like James (Joseph Jr?) sold only part of his 150ac to Martin Harp. That might be where John H. was in 1870? I really do appreciate all your help, Marj

3. Marj: It looks to me like: Joseph was the father. Ann was a Daughter who had the two younger children in her household in the 1860 Macon Co., Ga. Census. I think possibly that Joseph and his wife Mary both died and are possibly buried on Land Lot 224/2nd Dist. Orig. Muscogee, Now Macon Co., Ga. Just a guess. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Lilredgma@aol.com> To: <GAMACON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 05, 2002 12:36 PM Subject: Re: [GAMACON] MARTIN in 1850 > Thank you so much for the information on the Martins. 2. Thank you so much for the information on the Martins. My family, that of William (Jasper) Martin left and went to Covington Co, AL in 1854. I do not know what happened to Joseph's family. In looking at the names in William Jasper Martin's household and those of Joseph (71-VA) it looks like maybe Joseph MIGHT be father to William Jasper Martin. I have been unable to locate either family before 1850. Again, thank you for your efforts~! Marj

3. Sorry, I can't find a lot on this family but they lived in the 757th Dist. of Macon Co., Ga. which borders Schley Co., formerly Marion Co., Ga. "A" James Martin appears in the 1852 Macon Co., Ga. Tax Digest owning Lot No. 224/2nd Dist. Orig. Muscogee, Later Marion, Now Macon Co., Ga. This James does not appear in either the 1850 nor 1860 Census of Macon County, nor is he allowed a Poll. This could be one of two possibilities, His name could have been mistaken in the Tax Digest as Jas. rather than Jos. The Joseph Martin would have been over age at that point. None of this family appears in the "Cemeteries of Macon County" In 1860 Macon Co., Ga. Census MARTIN, Ann 45 f GA Farmer $400/250 Harrison 19 m GA School Madison 16 m GA School [James Madison Martin ?] Jackson 16 m GA School [Wm. Jackson Martin ?] ********************************* On 9-27-1858 Deed Bk. A pg. 245 - James Martin of Macon Co., Ga. sold to Martin L. Harp of Macon Co. 90 acres of Lot No. 224/2nd Dist. "All that part of that lies East of a large Branch that runs through said Lot containing 90 acres. ********************************************* In 1870 Macon Co., Ga. Census MARTIN, John H. 29 m/w GA Farmer $200/200 Martha wife 28 f/w Charlie son 2 m/w ROBERSON, Nancy 11 f/s Home **************************** The above John H. Martin could possibly be the Harrison that appeared in the 1860 census ?????
