Hello Everyone... Several CLAYTON "cousins" are trying to piece together the several CLAYON familes who came to the Lowndes County area from Barnwell District, South Carolina before 1840. Anyone connected to any these families please contact CandyOtte@aol.com and share any bits of info you have on them. I feel these families are related and would welcome input from anyone to disprove or prove my theory which follows. We each have facts on our own branches of the family and these facts need to be put together in some way. 1) Joseph W. Clayton born abt 1805 and his wife Harriet ? 2) John T. Clayton born abt 1800 - daughter Susannah born 1822 (John T.'s wife was Levinia Jeter daughter of Samuel Jeter (d. 1808) and Susannah Pryor. Levinia died before her daughter was a year old.) 3) Daniel W. Clayton and his wife Elizabeth Brooke daughter of Thomas Brooke (d 1818 is S.C.) and his wife Susannah Pryor, widow of Samuel Jeter) 4) Isham H. Clayton and his wife Susannah (widow of both Samuel Jeter and Thomas Brooke) Isham may be the father of the three Clayton gentlemen listed above by a previous marriage. All 4 families came to Lowndes County about the same time from Barnwell District South Carolina. 5) John Allen born abt 1805, son of James Allen and Ann Bryan of Barnwell S.C. and his wife Eliza Jeter also came to Lowndes County about the same time. Eliza Jeter was also the daughter of Susannah Pryor and Samuel Jeter. 6) Forma Clayton born abt 1823, daughter of Isham H and Susannah #(4) above married Ransom T. Prescott 7) Jackson Clayton born abt 1827 also son of Isham H and Susannah married Martha ? 8) Duncan Clayton born 1829 also a son of Isham H. and Susannah married Anna C. Zeigler 9) Alminia Brooke born 1816 daughter of Susannah and Thomas Brooke - we know nothing more on Alminia, except she was age 22 in 1838 and living with Elizabeth and Daniel Clayton according to a letter written by my ancestor her brother Thomas Tobias Brooke. 10) Thomas Tobias Brooke born 1812, son of Susannah and Thomas Brooke who married first Mary Deloach (d 1841) and second to Nancy Yerby... this family moved to Florida by 1850 and to Volusia County Florida by 1860 and are My Direct ancestors. 11) Sarah Brooke born 1818, youngest daughter of Susannah and Thomas Brooke who married Jesse P. Prescott (brother of Ransom who married her half sister Forma Clayton.
