This is a copy below of a note I just sent to our HOWELL-List & thought I'd send it along to the Lowndes List also.... Thanks in advance for any help & for your time! Sarah Howell Studstill << Is there anyone on our HOWELL List who has a line connected to or info concerning: 1840 Census, Lowndes Co, GA: JOHN HOWELL 1 M, 2 F I am trying to ascertain if this could possibly be my g-gf, CASWELL HOWELL....A paternal aunt, now deceased stated in papers done fro my Mom that his name was JOHN CASWELL HOWELL - in later refs, all I see is the given name of CASWELL....one of his sons was named "JACK" whom some think was a nick name, that he was named for JOHN CASWELL HOWELL. Our family is notorious about nicknames - my Dad was HARRY LEE HOWELL but was called "Buck" his entire life by family & friends - sometimes business associates knew him as H. L. HOWELL. His father's name was HAMPTON, called "HAMP" & his mother was named LILLIAN EUGENIA, called "JENNY". One of my uncles was known as "Big Jack" (his son was "Little Jack"), aunt ELIZABETH was "Beth," another uncle was Uncle "Will," then there was aunt "Kate," etc, etc....My sister is Harriette, called "Koota" & I am Sarah, but called "Susy" by the family.... Are there any other HOWELL lines here who were also into nicknames like this? Perhaps we're related....maybe it's in the genes! <g> Thanks again, Sarah Howell Studstill>>
