    1. G. E. (Ed) Lane, Madison,FL, Valdosta, Quitman 1875-1960
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jc.2ADI/528 Message Board Post: I am looking for information on the families mentioned below. These Lanes were also in Quitman and Valdosta, Georgia. I am especially interested in the G. E. Lane, aged 5. He was a handsome man, and he was always so kind. He was born 1875 in Madison County, FL. Elizabeth was born 1830, place unknown. I am posting pictures of the two of them. Maybe some cousins out there?? From the 1880 Madison County, Florida Census Hamburg Section (This is NW Madison County) Name Color Sex Age Relationship Born Father Mother LANE, Sylvester W M 53 Widower GA GA GA W. S. W M 11 Son GA GA GA G. E. W M 5 Son FL GA GA Elizabeth W F 50 Sister GA GA GA Clara A. W F 18 Cousin GA GA GA Also, listed just before Sylvester is: LANE, J. T. W M 25 FL GA GA H. L. W F 25 Wife FL GA GA E. S. W F 2 Daughter FL FL FL C. F. W F 5/12 Daughter FL FL FL VICKERS, Carolina (as best I can read it) W F 56 Mother GA GA GA (Wondering if she could be mother of the wife??) I believe this is probably the same Sylvester in 1870. From a printed census of Brooks County, GA in 1870. Nankin is in south Brooks County. LANE, Sylvester Age 40 Henrietta 30 James 16 Willie 2 John 35 Elizabeth 42 I feel the James could be the J. T. Lane listed next to Sylvester in the Madison County, Florida, 1880 census. Could John be a brother to Sylvester? A Sylvester and John LANE are shown in the Civil War unit called the Piscola Rifles, enlisting from Brooks County. A Sylvester LANE (shown on some records as LAM) was shown to have married Nancy REDDING and moved to Texas in the 1850's. This could possibly have been the same one. He could have married Henrietta later. The time interim would work. The G. E. LANE (called Ed), shown on the 1880 census as age 5, was raised by his Aunt Elizabeth who is also shown on the same census. He does not remember his father, nor did he know he had brothers. This is a puzzle, though it is probably explained by his father's death when he was young. He always tried to get family images better in his mind, but he just couldn't. He talked of an Old Will LANE in Quitman, but we never knew just who he was. He said he knew, but couldn't prove, that a Mayor LANE(?) in Tampa was a cousin. My dad tried for years to find info for him, and he did find that he was born in Madison County, Florida. Apparently Madison County records were destroyed by fire. Hope someone is aware of this family. Sydney Cardner (the Sydney is female

He married Phoebe Alderman, daughter of Daniel (if memory serves) Alderman, a Revolutionary soldier buried at Branan Cemetery near Statesboro, GA. Phoebe died and is also buried there. The graves are well marked. John moved to what is now Lowndes County. He married an Edmondson (2d wife). Some think he married a second Edmondson (a sister of the 1st). John is buried near Hahira, Georgia, on the Old Owen Smith plantation, which is now a part of the GA Sheriffs' Boys' Ranch. John and Phoebe had a son David, my gggrandfather. David had a son, Elbert, my ggrandfather, whose son, Alonzo, was my grandfather. I might be able to find Samuel from all the material I have. I will have to go to my files for that, but will try to keep it in mind and post it here. I have not followed John's first (an possibly second) marriage that closely, but do have information. I also have information on John's father, grandfather, etc.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jc.2ADI/524.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Ralanda, The problem is that there have been a multitude of Nicholas REDDICKs. Your likely ancestor (very likely) Nicholas Moses REDDICK was the son of Jacob Lewis and Nancy WIGGINS REDDICK. Nichols Moses was born October 29, 1802 in Screven County, Georgia. He moved to Dooly County sometime in the 30s and then moved to Brooks County and Colquitt County later in his life. He died July 11, 1888. He was married three times and fathered 16 children. Nicholas Moses had an uncle named Nicholas REDDICK (my gggg-grandfather - who moved from N.C. to then Burke County, Georgia following the Revolutionary War). Portions of Burke and Effingham Counties were transformed into Screven County in 1793. Nicholas Moses' father Jacob Lewis and his uncle Nicholas were then residents of the new county. Jacob Lewis and Nicholas also had brothers named Francis and Peter who also lived along the Burke and Screven Counties line. There is also a possible fifth brother named Shadrach REDDICK (not proven as a brother, but suspected to be a fifth brother). Further, Nicholas Moses' uncle Nicholas also had a grandson named Nicholas (my gg-grandfather). So, there were these three and some other REDDICKs provided with the given name of Nicholas or Nichols. This can appear to be very confusing to anyone looking at the first three or four generations of REDDICKs within Georgia. Have a look at the following webpage for more information on the early REDDICKs of Georgia: http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?Reddick::ga/screven::90.html Or, go the following URL: http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?Screven::reddick::565.html Now, the real expert on the REDDICKs of Georgia and adjacent states is Mrs. Shirley Reddick of Pensacola. Shirl has compiled & produced seven books on various REDDICK lineages that passed through Screven and Burke Counties and then onward across the Southeast. She has books on both the families of Jacob Lewis & Nancy WIGGINS REDDICK and their son Nicholas Moses REDDICK (and his three wives and sixteen children). Shirl has to charge $20 apiece for her books. But, they are well worth the expense if you are trying to put together your REDDICK ancestry. You can contact Shirl via the following: Mrs. Shirley Reddick 3247 Fridinger Dr. Pensacola, FL. 32526 850-944-3200 creddick@worldnet.att.net I hope that all of this helps. Dale

He had at least 6 son's by his first wife because i have a picture of him and his sons. Lawrence,Arren,George, Baney, and Johnnie. That's all I have. My Dad was Willie Roscoe Herring. My mother was Susie Mae Webb both are dead . He had a half-brother named Zeno Bass. I guess he was born before Charles married Louisa Bass. I would appreciate any information on any of the aforementioned .
