Wouldn't it be wonderful to get some Lownde County Cemeteries on-line? There are a couple on-line (also the listing of cemeteries) at http://personal.mia.bellsouth.net/mia/m/i/miamibig/lowndes/LowndesCem.html These were done by Harry Folsom But I'd like to have all of you work with me in putting together some more. If everyone on this list would send me the Cemetery and list of people with dates (and their relationships to each other, i.e. son of; spouse of) then with everyone working together we might be surprised how much we could gather. Lowdnes is such an old county 1825.... so there really should be more on-line about it to help other researchers. It only takes one person to get the ball rolling on something like this....would YOU help us out?!! http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/lowndes.htm Virginia Crilley

My ggggrandfather Isham Lewis's first wife Matilda Gibson parent Clarissa Gibson is buried there. I know usually these familys that are buried at the church attended thee also. What i am looking for is the marriage of there daughter sometime possibly in the 1829 -30 somewhere close to James Isham Lewis. I also wonder if there were any Lewis's who possibly were attending this church. Isham and Matilda had one son James M. Lewis. When Matilda died the grandparents raised James. If anyone attends this church or has a book on the history and would be so kind as to check and see if these names or Lewis names appear i would greatly appreciate you checking it out and letting me know. Thank you Terry Howell. Clarissa Gibson i know is buried in the Cemetary.

I have resigned my positions as regional coordinator for SW GAGenWeb and as county coordinator for the counties of Thomas, Lowndes, Lanier and Brooks. According to the Georgia DAR Historical Collections, Lewis M. Collins is buried in the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta. I went there today and did not find his grave nor was it listed in the office, however, the grave of his wife is listed and was found along with other related graves. The Cemetery book for Lowndes county does not list his burial that I could find. I am writing this in the library right now. Question: Does anyone know where Lewis M. Collins is buried? His wife was Mamie Roberds Collins who was the daughter of Harriet "Hattie" Zeigler Roberds, who was the wife of Reuben Roberds. Since I take a lot of headstone shots I would love to find his grave. The same DAR records show that Julius Monroe Wilcox is buried there. I did not find his grave but his wife, Eloise Collins Wilcox is buried in the same plot with the others mentioned above. I am hoping someone on this list is researching these folks. charles t. zeigler

All I can find is that it is on the SW part of Berrien County somewhere on the county line. From other posts I understand that the cemetery was in poor condition as of May 1999. Can you still get to the cemetery and/or read any of the markers? I descend from James Mathis b. 1786 a brother of John Mathis b. 1774. I have driven the road between Adel and Ray City, so could get there from that area if given directions. Thank you for any help you can give. Jennifer Dennison jennifer@gerdesas.com

His name was John Porter (J.P.) Ulmer. He was born in Savannah, GA on 23 October 1866. He died on 11 March 1954 in Central Florida. He was one of the first funeral directors in South Georgia. I believe all of his sons except for one became funeral directors as well. His wife's name was Ida Florence James born 26 July 1865 in Ware County, GA. I believe they had 8 children. One was my great grandfather, Robert Cicero Ulmer (1891 - 1935), who ran a funeral home in Waycross, GA. I believe John Porter Ulmer's parents were George C. Ulmer and Sabra E. Harris. I have the following newspaper clipping circa (1915 - 1930): "Mrs. R. C. Ulmer ... was licensed as one of the few women embalmers in the state of Georgia. Mrs. Ulmer is the wife of R. C. Ulmer, well known Waycross funeral director and becomes the seventh living member of the Ulmer family now serving as licensed embalmers. The Ulmer family for three generations has been identified in the funeral business in this state. Mr. Ulmer's father, J.P. Ulmer of Valdosta, still being active in the work." Jim, do you have a connection to this family? I'd be interested to hear from you. ~Diana
I saw this reply to someone on GALOWNDE - Rootsweb message Board . http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jc.2ADI/107.1 Message Board Post: I have some information regarding the Selph family. Are you looking for Charnick Selph born in Georgia 1797 and died in 1868 in Hamiton County, Florida. He had ten childred. He woas married to Rebecca Fletcher in 1826 in Georgia. I am also looking for some information on one of his children, Lousia Selph, married to Henry B. Hill. Would you please contact me if you have any information on Henry B. Hill. Also contact me for more information on Charnick This message piqued my curiosity. My husband's grandfather's name was Benjamin Hill Beaty. Benjamin's father's name was Thomas Jefferson Beaty and his uncle (Thomas' brother) was Andrew Decatur Beaty. Andrew Decatur had a daughter that married a man by the name of Selph. The Beaty's were from Lowndes Co. GA area before moving to Hamilton Co.>Madison County, FL and then Thomas and some of Andrew's children moved to Hillsborough County FL. I have never been able to tie down where the "Hill" came from in Benjamin Hill Beaty's name, but felt certain that it was probably a surname. By any chance, do you have any records that would indicate any connection between Beaty and Hill families? Thank you, Connie Beaty, Gainesville, FL E-mail: chb122154@aol.com

I would be interested in any information you have gathered about him. I'm particularly interested in finding out anything at all about my grandfather Clarence Ashley Folsom who married Bessie Lee Cowart. He died at the early age of 42, leaving six living children. He was an optometrist in Moultrie, Ga. when he died during the Depression. My father was 6 when he died and barely remembered him. I haven't been able to find out anything at all about him. I would like to commend you on your invaluable service to the genealogical community; I've been working on my family for years and constantly see where you've helped so many people. Many blessings to you and your family; keep up the wonderful work.

I'm very proud to be an ancestor of his; she writes glowingly of his integrity and decency. Interestingly enough, we Folsoms are direct kin to the Wookfolks; had Montgomery known this, he would have been fascinated.
