The IGI lists a marriage between William GALLOWAY and Eliza in Canandaigua, NY c. 1851 I am descended from a William GALLOWAY (5/5/1806 - 8/18/1887) and an Eliza HUNT (1/26/1814 - 4/27/1892), his second wife. The marriage would have to be c. 1843 to match the dates of their first child, but I've seen greater deviations in the IGI. Any info relating to that marriage would be appreciated. (William was born, and both are buried, in Monroe, Orange Co., NY. Eliza was born in Westchester, NY, daughter of Jesse and Agnes HUNT)
Seeking information on descendants of Samuel GALLOWAY (b. say 1801) who married Elsey BERRY on 7/13/1826 in NYC
The sun came out so I went to check it out and..... Thomas has a new marker. It is a great big hugh monolith with all kinds of info on it: Thomas Harrison Galloway Born Dec 22, 1815 Died Dec 18, 1874 His wife Elizabeth Glazener Born Sept 8, 1818 Died Nov 15, 1901 Educators, Military Service, Religious Activity, Farms and Timberland, Lumber, Justice and other public service Associated with their acheivements, this monument should serve as the Galloway guide stone for all the descendents now and in the future And then on the back of the stone it says: Their family: James Earl M. Elizabeth O. Galloway Jane Susana M. Andrew Whitmire 2. John D. Galloway Lyman Thayer M. Selena Patterson Sarah Bertha M. Thomas Aikens Walton Albert D. age 15 Mary Ann D. age 13 F. Elizabeth D. age 11 Edward Hope M. Jestina Patterson 2. Martha Sutterfield Arthur Buford D. Age 3 N. Charlotte M. John B. Patterson Lydia Myra M. Francis M. Pettet Harriett Cass M. Wayne Lowe 2. Thomas Cantrell Erected in 1989 by the descendents to honor the memory of these beloved Great Grand Ancestors and their immediate family. Great marker - still leaves us with conflicting dates. Considering the amount of effort going into the marker, I'm going to use it as my "official" date and simply add a note that it might be off a bit. Maybe someday we will know. BTW - Wm. J & his wife still have the original markers. Capt Wim. J. Galloway Died June 26, 1895 aged 80 yrs, 4 ms, 10 dys. It is in pretty good shape. My math still comes up with 1815. I'll try to check on the original census sometime when I'm in Sylva. Does anyone know when parents John & Hannah were married? Judy Ballard wrote: > I have the same dates as you. I have the same dates as you. The dates are from the Transylvania Co. Cemeteries. If you follow the census records on William J. Galloway and Thomas Harrison Galloway, you will see that their ages are so that Thomas Harrison Galloway is born ca. 1817 (Could his d.o.b. be 22 Dec 1816?). William J. Galloway's census records (1860, 1870, 1880) indicate that he was born ca. 1815. In summary, I believe we will have to base these dates on census records and tombstones. Has anyone personally checked these tombstones to verify what is published? Sometimes old tombstones are difficult to read and 5's and 6's can easily be confused. I'm perplexed again. In the family of John Colby Galloway (William's son) and Hannah Aiken I have William J. Galloway born Feb 16, 1815 His brother Thomas Harrison was born Dec 22, 1815 While this is technically possible, and this kind of fertility would explain a lot about why there are so many Galloways, I'm wondering if anyone has any other version. I think these are from Monteith's Cemetery Survey book which doesn't give birth dates - only age at death. Another brother - Joseph B. Galloway "Joberry" is also giving me some problems. My info says he was born 06OCT1821 & died 25AUG1904. He married Martha Malinda Hines about 1840 and Mary Ann Rogers about 1860. Here's the problem 1. They moved the cemetery. 2. The cemetery listing lists him as Husband of M.M.Galloway. The listing fort M.M. Galloway says she was born 08SEP1822 and died 11MAR41892. The initials would match the first wife, but if this is the case then she lived longer then the second marriage took place. Something is amiss and I'm trusting it's not bigamy. There is also a sister named Sarah Crittenden Galloway. Just wondering where the funky middle name came from. My latest version of the family group is at http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/cousins/gall1872.html But please don't take it as the gospel truth. -- Linda Hoxit Raxter lraxter@citcom.net See Indexed Western North Carolina Cemetery Surveys http://www.geocities.com/~alextreehouse related to at least half the county - at least once ; )
I managed to track down the official owner and address of Folly Gap Cemetery and am working on setting up a work day. Tenative time is: March 22, 1998 about 2:00pm If you live fairly close by and want to pitch in, let me know. We will be removing the smaller brush from the top of the graves, trying to figure out where the unmarked graves are, and talking about what needs to be done next. We will also swap Galloway Tales Bring your own clippers and gloves and don't dress in your Sunday best for the occassion. -- Linda Hoxit Raxter lraxter@citcom.net See Indexed Western North Carolina Cemetery Surveys http://www.geocities.com/~alextreehouse related to at least half the county - at least once ; )

I have found a Galloway family in Fannin County, GA, but don't know which. Anyone lost a Thomas H. Galloway, b. abt 1861? He married on 17 Apr 1881, Sarah E. Most of this info is from the 1900 Census of Fannin County, except the b & d dates for William; that is from his headstone. Hope someone can help me place these. Thanks. According to information received, Willis Perry Galloway (s/o James & Sallie Parker Galloway) married Sarah Louisa "Tempa" Kitchins in 1858. In the 1860 Census of Henderson County, NC, in the household with Willis and Louisa were: Abraham Glazner, age 75 and Esther Glazner, age 70. Were they relatives? how and to whom? Also, I am still searching for parents of Jane A. Glazner, who married John Monroe Galloway (brother to Willis Perry) about 1842. They moved to Cherokee Co (now Clay Co.) NC before 1850. She was born 10 Jun 1810; died 17 Jan 1905 in Clay Co. Buried in Old Shooting Creek Cem in Clay Co., NC. She was my gggrandmother. Shawna Hall wrote that Christopher Whitmire married the widowed sister of Betty Mauldin, Mouldin Lyon. That would have made her maiden name Mouldin Mauldin! I am not aruging with that, just pointing it out. This is what I have based on "Transylvania Beginnings: A History" and a few other scraps here and there. I also have his will. There is a little discrepancy about which wife was first. According to his will - Kids Susan through Elizabeth were born to his "First wife" and the twins Christina and christopher were born to his "former wife". But looking at the birth dates I have it would appear these sisters were married in the other order - and that is the way I am lising them. Wife number 1 - Betty Mauldin - dtr of John G. Mauldin (I hope) 1. Christopher Whitmire b. 01NOV1794 2. Christine Whitmire b. 01NOV1794 Betty appears to have died in childbirth Wife number 2 - one of Betty's sisters 3. Susan Whitmire b. 1796 married a COX 4. Catherine Whitmire b. 1798 married a FINLEY 5. Nancy Whitmire b. 1800 married a MORE (I suspect that's MOORE) 6. Mary Whitmire b. 1803 married an ELLET 7. Richard "Uncle Dicky" Whitmire b. 1805 married Judah 8. Eleaner Whitmire b. 1807 m. an ADEAN 9. Andrew Whitmire b. 1809 10. Rebecca Whitmire b. 1811 11. Jane Whitmire b. 03OCT1812 d. 02MAR1891 m. William J. Galloway (s/o John C. Galloway) 12 Elizabeth Whitmire b. 1816 m. a TRAMMEL Wife Number 3 - Sally Elizabeth Galloway (d/o William Galloway & Sarah Essary) b. 1801 note - Elizabeth is younger than some of her step children. 13. William Whitmire b. 1824 14. Sarah H. Whitmire b. 08AUG1826 d. 1894 m. William Baxter OWEN Sr. 15. John C. "Honest John" Whitmire b. 26MAR1828 d. 09MAY1917 m. Betsy OWEN (Wm's sister if memory serves me correctly) 16. George Washington Whitmire b. 1830 17. Patsy Caroline Whitmire b.1832 18. Salley Whitmire b. 1834 19 Marion Whitmire b. 1838 20 Henry Dee Whitmire b. 1838 m. Hariet Sarah H. Whitmire who married Wm. Owen is a little unsure. She is not listed in the "Transylvania Beginnings" article. This is the version I got From Elizabeth Barton which she found in the Whitmire Book by Doris Owen. (Haskell Pruitt is the official author). I have also seen information from Elizabeth Tinsley which says Sarah is the dtr of Flem Whitmire & Singingbird. But it gets much much more confusing: It seems that those two Mauldin sisters who married Chris Sr. had a sister. Her name was Kizziah. She married John Galloway. Judy Ballard sent me this tidbit just before I got the list up. I've been trying to sort out how that makes everyone related, considering I have so many Galloway and Whitmire connections in my DNA. It just makes my head hurt everytime I get into it. Needless to say, the relationship calculator that came with my genealogy software is useless at this point. I may have found the answer to my question. This is from a small article on the history of the Whitmire family in the Transylvania Co. Heritage Book Christopher Columbus Whitmire, Sr. (1774-1842) married Betty Mauldin and had 2 children. Then married her widowed sister Mouldin Lyon, they had 10 children. Third wife was Elizabeth Galloway who had 9 children. He had 21 children! Most of you know, I long ago decided that William Galloway was really dropped off here by aliens and the men in black created fictitious stories about his origin to cover it up. But surfing Galloway sites, I have discovered that not everyone else has come to this conclusion. I have also discovered that each site listing parents for William has a different set, and new choices from the other ones I have already found around here and tossed in file 13. Well I'm willing to be proved wrong - so lets have some other theories. As background - it seems fairly well established that: William was born in 1763 or thereabouts and died 1851 He was in present day Transylvania County by 1796 He married Sarah/Harriet Ussary/Essary He had the following children: 1. Jimmie b. 1790 m. Sallie Parker 2. Rev. John C. b. 1793 m. Hanna Aiken 3. Elizabeth b. 1801 m. Christopher Whitmire 4. William D. b. 1805 m. Sarah Morgan 5. George Washington b. 1808 m. Elizabeth Jordan (plus at least two more based on census records - but I've never found names/dates for them) after Sarah's death he married Hannah Powell and they had son Robert H b. 1847 m. Sarah Jane Anderson. Census reports listing William's children show William was born in NC, SC, and VA. Either it was a very long labor, or something ain't quite right here. So all you cousins with anything other that an alien theory, please post your version. Hopefully someone actually has the right version. -- Linda Hoxit Raxter lraxter@citcom.net See Indexed Western North Carolina Cemetery Surveys http://www.geocities.com/~alextreehouse related to at least half the county - at least once ; )
Subject: GET LEGAL CASH IN MAIL W/ ONLY $5.00 READ THIS YOU WON'T BE SORRY, I WASN'T This will be the quickest way to get cash in the mail.If you follow these instructions carefully, you will be able to receive within two months nearly $50,000.00. The great part is is that $5.00 isn't really a whole lot and it could just be worth a try. I am currently 6 months pregnant and my husband and I are in debt. We both have really good professions but he has massive student loans and credit card bills (I was lucky and my father helped me through college). Needless to say, since we are married to one another I acquired his debt also. In any case, I followed these easy steps thinking that I really had nothing to lose and guess what? The first week I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I still figured it would end soon. The money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $20.00 to $30.00 dollars. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00!!!!!! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still coming in ....... You send $1.00 to each of the 5 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #5, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) and that is all. Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, Why it works....also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. The process is very simple and consists of 3 easy steps: Like most of us, I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal! Seriously, your story will sound like this one if you participate by doing the following: STEP 1: Get 5 separate pieces of paper and write your address on each piece of paper along with "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now get 5 $1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 5 pieces of paper so th e bill will not be seen through the envelope to prevent thievery. Next, place one paper in each of the 5 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 5 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service by this. THIS IS PERFECTLY LEGAL! Mail the 5 envelopes to the following addresses: #1 Corey McNear 233 Olive st. West Reading, PA 19611 #2 R. M. 66 Navesink Drive Monmouth Beach, NJ 07750 #3 Sam 27248 Grano Avenue Saugus, CA 91350 #4 Pat anderson 41 pilote st-ambroise Pq #5 Nick Austin 12318 Dollar Lk dr Fenton, MI 48430-9734 STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up (2 becomes 1, 3 becomes 2, etc...) and add YOUR Name as number 5 on the list. STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. (I think there is close to 18,000 groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make! Don't know HOW to post in the newsgroups? Well do exactly the following: FOR NETSCAPE USERS: 1) Click on any newsgroup, like normal. Then click on "To News", which is in the top left corner of the newsgroup page. This will bring up a message box. 2) Fill in the SUBJECT with a flashy title, like the one I used, something to catch the eye!!! 3) Now go to the message part of the box and retype this letter exactly as it is here, with exception of your few changes. (remember to add your name to number 5 and move the rest up) 6 4) When your done typing in the WHOLE letter, click on 'FILE' above the send button. Then, 'SAVE AS..' DO NOT SEND YOUR ARTICLE UNTILL YOU SAVE IT. (so you don't have toype this 200 times :-) 5) Now that you have saved the letter, go ahead and send your first copy! (click the 'SEND' button in the top left corner) 6) This is where you post all 200! OK, go to ANY newsgroup article and click the 'TO NEWS' button again. Type in your flashy subject in the 'SUBJECT BOX', then go to the message and place your cursor here. Now click on 'ATTACHMENT' which is right below the 'SUBJECT BOX'. Click on attach file then find your letter wherever you saved it. Click once on your file then click 'OPEN' then click 'OK'. If you did this right , you should see your filename in the 'ATTACHMENT BOX' and it will be shaded. NOW POST AWAY! FOR INTERNET EXPLORER: It's just as easy, holding down the left mouse button, highlight this entire article, then press the 'CTRL' key and 'C' key at the same time to copy this article. Then print the article for your records to have the names of those you will be sending $1.00 to. Go to the newsgroups and press 'POST AN ARTICLE' type in your flashy subject and click the large window below. Press 'CTRL' and 'V' and the article will appear in the message window. **BE SURE TO MAKE YOUR ADDRESS CHANGES TO THE 5 NAMES.** Now re-highlight the article and re-copy it so you have the changes.... then all you have to do for each newsgroup is 'CTRL' and 'V' and press 'POST'. It's that easy!! THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to different newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup! **REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200** **If these instructions are too complex to follow, try Forte's "Free Agent." It is freeware for noncommercial use. To download it, simply use a search utility and type "Forte Free Agent". You should be able to find it.** That's it! You will begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may eventually want to rent a P.O. Box due to the large amount of mail you receive. If you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to use, as long as the postman will deliver it. **JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.** Now the WHY part: This entire principle works because it is in a format of an upside down tree with thousands of branches. Everyone below you will see to it that the tree continues because they want to get money. Those below THEM will continue because THEY want to get the cash etc. Out of 200 postings, say I receive only 5 replies (a very low example). So then I made $5.00 with my name at #5 on the letter. Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #4 and only 5 persons respond to each of the original 5, that is another $25.00 for me, now those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #3 and only 5 replies each, I will bring in an additional $125.00! Now, those 125 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200 with my name at #2 and only receive 5 replies each, I will make an additional $626.00! OK, now here is the fun part, each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM of 200 letters with my name at #1 and they each only receive 5 replies, that just made me $3,125.00!!! With a original investment of only $5.00! AMAZING! And as I said 5 responses is actually VERY LOW! Average is probable 20 to 30! So lets put those figures at just 15 responses per person. Here is what you will make: at #5 $15.00 at #4 $225.00 at #3 $3,375.00 at #2 $50,625.00 at #1 $759,375.00 When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $5.00 to names on the list, putting your name at number 5 and start posting again. The thing to remember is that thousands of people all over the world are joining the Internet and reading these articles everyday, JUST LIKE YOU are now!! And this will go on and on and on and on.... get the picture? Well, there's 5,000,000,000 people on the world and most of them will eventually end up being hooked into the internet. So there are virtually unlimited resources. Of course this will work the best at the very beginning so the faster you post, the better for YOU! People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are joining the Internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day, with thousands of those joining the actual Internet. Remember, play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will work. You just have to be honest. Make sure you print this article out RIGHT NOW, also. Try to keep a list of everyone that sends you money and always keep an eye on the newsgroups to make sure everyone is playing fairly. Remember, HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY. You don't need to cheat the basic idea to make the money!! GOOD LUCK to all and please play fairly and reap the huge rewards from this, which is tons of extra CASH. **By the way, if you try to deceive people by posting the messages with y name in the list and not sending the money to the rest of the people already onhe list, you will NOT get as much. Someone I talked to knew someone who did that and he only made about $150.00, and that's after seven or eight weeks! Then he sent the 5 $1.00 bills, people added him to their lists, and in 4-5 weeks he had over $10k. This ishe fairest and most honest way I have ever seen to share the wealth of the world without costing anything but our time!!! You also may want to buy mailing and e-mail lists for future dollars. Please remember to declare your extra income. Thanks once again...
