    1. William Galloway b 1787 married Susannah Cox
    2. Does anyone know of this family? I am trying to find out which Galloway my 3rd great grandfather came from. My aunt seems to believe that he was the son of James Galloway (1750-1839) who married Rebecca Junkin (1759-1812). I have access to a book written by Ruth Hendricks DeVerter and I find that James' (1750) son William married Elizabeth Pomeroy, not Susannah Cox. This is the way I know the story: William "Billie" Galloway was born in 1787, possibly Salisbury, NC. He and Susannah Cox b 1792 married in 1809. At some point, they moved to Davidson County (TN or NC ?) and later traveled to Hardeman Co., TN They had the following children: LeRoy Galloway b 1810 TN d 1828 Limestone Co., AL (was single) William A. Galloway II b Aug 2, 1812 TN d 1862 m Rebecca Cox (from Bedford Co., TN) Mary "Polly" Galloway b 1814 TN d ?? m Cunningham Cox (from Bedford Co., TN) Rebecca Cox and Cunningham Cox were siblings Robert Galloway b Feb 18, 1817 Limestone Co. AL d Jan 28, 1875 Saulsbury, Hardeman Co., TN m Martha Melinda McCrory (Mecklenburg, NC) This family moved to Limestone Co., AL about 1815. The father William "Billie", died about 1819/1820 and Susannah and the four children stayed there until 1828. That is when the son LeRoy GAlloway and Susannah's brother Jesse Cox took claim on some land in Hardeman Co., TN. When LeRoy went back to Limestone Co to get his mother and three siblings, he died. (this was about 1828). As the family story goes, Susannah went on to TN to take possession of the land. She loaded up the one horse wagon full of the household goods it could carry, with the cow and calf tied behind. She had to sit up at night to keep the wolves from attacking the animals. The trip was made safely and they settled 3 miles north of Saulsbury, TN. Susannah Cox Galloway died in 1872 and is buried in Spring Creek Cemetery near Saulsbury, TN (without a marker) Thank you for your time. Mindy Hall Thompson Other surnames from William "Billie" Galloway are: Cox, McCrory, Caldwell, McCammon, Fortune, Dowdy, McAnulty, Wafford, Southall, Sparkman, Porter, Futrell

Linda, Is this going to be your next survey? I noticed that I didn't have John's burial site in my data. Is Jane buried there also. I may be coming up your way in July. Wanna do a cemetery? I hope to revisit an abandoned cemetery in Macon County, too, so that at least you'll have one for Macon on your cemetery list. Regards, Philip ... related to Linda and Shawna, hence, the world!

    1. ROBERT GALLOWAY
    2. >From VA. Gen-Web MAY, 1762 (A). Parsons vs. Trimble.--Thomas Parsons and Felix Seymore, of Hampshire County. 1761. Wm. Kennedy vs. Joseph Kennedy and Borden's Executors.--In 1741 Ro. Galloway bought land of Borden, but Borden died before making deed--430 acres, Moffett's Creek. Galloway lived upon and improved the land until 12 or 13 years ago, when he sold to orator's father, Joseph Kennedy. Joseph lived on the land until 1760, when Joseph sold to William in consideration that William will pay so much, and also educate and bring up his four infant sisters. William entered, took care of his sisters, repaired the fulling mill, to do which he had to sell his own place. Writ: Feb. 25, 1759 (8?). Bill for deed from Borden. William Bell vs. George Willson.--Plaintiff ran a saw mill.

    3. Linda, I am almost positive (have to check my notes at home, but I am at work), that Joseph M Galloway was the youngest son of John Monroe and Jane Glazner Galloway. My great grandfather was his brother. IF my info is correct, John Monroe had 4 sons; Merrit, Harvey Monroe; Elisha Tillford (my g gf);and Joseph M. Joseph and Rosa stayed in Clay County and still has descendants in Clay Co. I will send some followup later today or tomorrow. It is great to see so much activity on the List! Keep it going. 3. I went to the KITCHEN family reunion, got my hands on a KITCHEN family Bible, and found a bunch of GALLOWAYS - amazing how that happens. Not sure who had the copy - there were a bunch of research notebooks running around. Anyway, I can't figure out where Joseph M. Galloway who married Rosa Ann Cheoah Moore fits into the Galloway family tree. For that matter, I can't figure out how the Kitchens fit into the Kitchen family tree. Here's the info, see if anything matches. I had to quickly transcribe a bad photocopy so i'm not sure I would actually swear to any of this. On some of the pages, the dates were pretty much blured beyond recognition. Page 1 & 2 were on the same sheet, 3&4 were also together page 5 is some random notes on another page I'm assigning page number as the appeared in the Kitchen notebook. 3. Please keep in mind I started this list as a result of getting tired of listing a bunch of cousins e-mail address everytime we found something new. As stated in the description of the mailing list, this is primarily for the decendants of John & William Galloway who settled in Present Day Transylvania County NC since these are particularly tricky families to nail down. This is why you tend to see the Southern Galloways more often. We were already aquainted, some of us have even met, and we all have the basic "Southern Yak Gene". However, the Galloway name is certainly large enough for everyone to participate, and even these two southern Galloways have children everywhere. We're probably all more closely related than we realize. In fact, the recent Indiana Galloways mentioned may have Transylvania roots - with dates and birth places unknown, it could be. And with possible VA, PA, or KY connections, discussion from other states could be helpful. About 80% the Galloway mailing list folks are lurking. Please feel free to jump in even if you don't have roots in Transylvania. But at the same time, please be patient with us po' rednecks try'n to sort out our local cousins <g>. Do any of you'ns have web pages dedicated to Galloways in other parts of the country? You may have noticed the tag lines at the bottom of these posts. I still have room for about a half a dozen web pages in the rotation. -- Linda Hoxit Raxter lraxter@citcom.net See Indexed Western North Carolina Cemetery Surveys http://www.geocities.com/~alextreehouse related to at least half the county - at least once ; )

    3. Here it is folks, everything I have on Galloway taken verbatim from "Holdeman Descendants" by Edwin L. Weaver published at E. V. Publishing House in Nappanee, Indiana 1937. This book contains almost complete information on the Holdeman lineage beginning, in America in 1788 or so, with Christian Holdeman. Fourth Generation (Holdeman) Lucy Holdeman was married August 11, 1901 to Charles R. Galloway at Wakarusa by Rev. Hollopeter at the M. E. parsonage. Charles R. Galloway was born near Lagrange, Indiana, October 2nd, 1870, and was the son of William H. H. and Eliza (Iman) Galloway. Children: 1) Hazel Galloway, born September 1st, 1902 at Eddy, Lagrange County Indiana. 2) Irene Galloway, born November 9th, 1904 at Ashley, Indiana. 3) Gerald Galloway, born July 27th, 1906 at Ashley, Indiana. 4) Hildreth Galloway, born July 27th, 1908 at Montpelier, Ohio. 5) Lola Galloway, born March 31st, 1911 at Montpelier, Ohio; died at Montpelier March 20th, 1914. Aged 2 years, 11 months, 20 days. There exists one other entry in this book, it is as follows. Fifth Generation (Holdeman) Kenneth Raymond Fox was married February 10, 1934 to Etna Galloway born November 8, 1913, daughter of William and Bertha (Huddleston) Galloway. Farmer. Harper, Kansas Children: 1. Lewanna Jean Fox, born January 24, 1934. I do not believe I am related to Bertha. It would seem that at least one Galloway (Charles R.) made it to Indiana and fathered a new generation. The strange part is that Galloway is a Scottish name and the Holdeman name is from Eggvil, Switzerland from an early Mennonite center in canton Bern, Switzerland. I'm pretty sure there are no Scottish Mennonites! Anyone else know of an Indiana Galloway connection? -----Original Message----- From: Blackwelders [mailto:blckwldr%ls.net@internet.fedex.com] Sent: Monday, June 15, 1998 5:48 PM To: GALLOWAY-L%rootsweb.com@internet.fedex.com Subject: Other Galloways I would also like to see more Galloways from VA, KY, IN, etc. Linda Blackwelder

Does anyone have an exact marriage date for the happy, now Baptist, couple? -- Linda Hoxit Raxter lraxter@citcom.net See Indexed Western North Carolina Cemetery Surveys http://www.geocities.com/~alextreehouse related to at least half the county - at least once ; ) ==== GALLOWAY Mailing List ==== Indexed WNC Cemetery Surveys (Galloways Galore) Visit Alexandra's Family Tree House http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/7150

    3. >John & Mary Harrison Galloway as parents would be helpful, but I don't think >anyone has actually found any proof of this. It all goes back to the main >problem of there just being way too many William & John Galloways in the >world. I think I got this from Shawna; at least that is Shawna has the same info. I left a query on the Northumberland County, Penn., page a couple of months ago, but, alas, no response. Philip

    3. Hi Galloway Rooters, I noticed in Monteith's 1880 Census of Transylvania County: Eastatoe Twp.: William D. Galloway and wife Sarah (Morgan). William (or Sarah, depending on who the census take was talking to) stated that his father and mother (William and Sarah Essary) were born in Virginia. How I got Pennsylvania in my database, I have no idea why. Has anyone confirmed this? I guess we could take William D. at his word? Somewhere, I got info that may indicate that William (not D.) had parents from Pennsylvania, Northumberland County to be exact, by the name of John and Mary Harrison Galloway.. Anybody else seen this? How many more questions am I allowed? :~) Philip Sheppard Beaufort, South Carolina
