Author: clydegallop Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.gallop/176/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I did not see any mention of a Gallop tie in beyond Willis and Polly witnessing this document. Nothing was there to give further proof Mary was a Bencham. I have never seen the name of Bencham in Gordon c. Jones of Abstracts of Currituck and Dare county Wills thus that is rather vague. There is mention of a tie in to the Iredel family and even if iredel and Kimberly Rogers surnamed Gallop these could be grandchildren who may have been raised by Willis and were given his surname. Willis witnessed quite a few documents due to his position in Currituck county. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [GALLOP] Clarification of Mary Iredel Gallop
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: clydegallop Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.gallop/175/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Once again in 45 years of eperience plus over 500 families traced I have a rather good knowledge of the Northeastern Coast (Currituck and Dare Counties especially) and I am well familiar with the customs of families of the era of Willis Gallop's tome. The name Bensham has never occurred in any of the records at all in any form thus this is proven incorrect and there would need to be a first hand record that could introduce that name into the line. Second I would like to know where the Best line comes from as no specific name was mentioned in any of the information I have ever seen of Currituck county. Iredel was so named because of the mary though Bensham by another post and the Perry line being Susannah Perry not Mary Perry thus the final conclusion is the wife os Willis Gallop WAS MARY IREDEL. It is to be noted that while Willis had a powerful connection to get legislation passed concerning Zadock he influence came in part due to his kinship with the family of Gov James Iredel and his father Judge James Iredel. I myself have had my senator to get a bill passed to create one data base for filing out school teacher applications. My own influence came from a personal riendship with the late Thad Eure who was NC Secl of STATE for 51 years. Families were deliberate as to how kids were named which is proven by the Hodges in Willis' name coming from the Hodges family as shown in the line further back. The name Iredel came in because although there was a Rogers by whom he had children (which again should have further proof) still Willis decided to finally give the name Iredel to one of his children. The Iredel and Kimberly Rogers could be his grandchildren as is shown in many wills. My and my father's name of Shelton came from a request of my 2 gt. grandmother wantin! g dad names Shelton and in her line there is Patrick Henry and Sarah Shelton. I have cousins from my relationship to President John Tyler who is named Jones Tyler because David Gardner Tyler the eldest son of Pres. John and Julia Gardiner married the daughter of James Alfred Jones. Families of that time were deliberate in how names were given. With over 123,000 names in Ancestry plus on over three occasions with noted societies such as SAR, SCV, Magna Carta all telling me my research is one of the most accurate ever submitted I have proven my ability. BE IT KNOWN IT IS SETTLED THE WIFE OF WILLIS HODGES GALLOP WAS MARY IREDEL SO THIS CASE IS CLOSED..... Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Gallop b. 1812 Willis had one illegitimate son by Elizabeth Best: Zaddock Gallop b. 17 May 1822 - d. 7 Feb 1861 Willis had four illegitimate children by Elizabeth L. Rogers: Kimbley Rogers b. 1837 Irdel Rogers b. 1839 Willis P. Rogers b. 1843 Ann Rogers In addition to money, Willis must have had a good deal of influence because he had an "Act" passed by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina: Currituck County, NC - Zadock Best - Act to Legitimate ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An Act to alter the name of, and legitimate Zadock Best of Currituck county Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the name of Zadock Best, son of Elizabeth Best of Currituck county, and Willis Gallop of said county, be altered to that of Zadock Gallop, and is hereby declared legitimated, and entitled to inherit from his said father Willis Gallop, by descent or distribution as effectually as if he had been born in wedlock, any thing in any other law to the contrary notwithstanding. Source: NC Archives Public and Private Laws of North Carolina 1834-35 Chapter CXIII Page 66 ----------------- So you can see, he had other sons but not by Mary. None of his sons were named Benjamin. The Benjamin Gallop who was born about 1797/8 and married a Dough, I believe was the son of John Gallop. He may have been a nephew of Willis Gallop but not his son. This Benjamin had a son named Benjamin (b. 9 Jun 1815 - d. 10 Nov 1878) who married Director Hall Gregory. They in turn had a son named Benjamin. I have no doubt Willis Gallop was related to John Gallop and Benjamin Gallop but I can only guess on the relationship. I do not have any proof. The will of Willis Gallop gives the clue that makes Mary his wife an Iredell and it is her mother that was the Perry thus the Perry line is still the same but just a generation further back. The reason the Gallop line goes so far back is The Gallop Assoc. of which I am now a member said the first Gallop that is listed in Burke's Commoners came out of the North and had been a soldier of fortune that helped him get the land that is Bowood Manor which is near Bridport Dorset. I do not know if you know Calvin Owens who lives in Bear Grass NC which is between Williamston and Greenville. I see Calvin on occasions as I am only five and a half years younger but he was the last of my father's cousins. Calvin's parents are Uncle jesse owens and Aunt Maggie Gallop Owens. Aunt Maggie was one of the three girls of my gt. grandparents Marion Clyde Gallop and Eleanora Wayles Randolph Evans the daughter of James Byron Evans and Frances Aydlett. The reason the Wayles and Raldolph is in Grandmother Leno's name is because Grandpa Evans was the son of Madison Evans a lineal nephew of president James Madison and Eleanora Randolph Coolidge. the gt. granddaughter of Thomas Jefferson. One may think impossible but Frances Aydlett was the daughter of Issac Aydlett and Lovey Harrison (NOT A SISTER OF LUCINDA HARRISON WHO MARRIED HIRAM CLYDE GALLOP AND THEY ARE MY 2 GT. GRANDPARENTS) . Lovey and Lucinda were dousins and they were raised together thus the misconcep! tion of they being sisters. One thing of interest is dad and I were names Shelton and issac Aydlett was the sone of Jacob Aydlett (originally Aylett) who married a Tillett but Jacob's parents were PATRICK HENRY AND SARAH SHELTON VIA DAU. BETSY WHO MARRIED PHILIP AYLETT. JACOB WAS LEFT LAND BY PARTICK IN CAMDEN COUNTY AS PATRICK WAS CONNECTED TO THE DISMAL SWAMP COMPANY. Second interest was Ellen Wayles Randolph who married Joseph coolidge jr. her favorite poet was James Byron and that is why grandpa jimmy was names James Byron Coolidge Evans but was just known as JB or Jimmy Evans. I have Jimmy's picture and the Civil War Poem he wrote. later Clyde Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. John Gallop is noted and in the Gallop Assoc. it is also born out that Capt. John was from Bridport Dorset and was not an indentured servant. and yes Melson is a corruption of the name of Nelson I thought you may like to know also that in 2014 I was accepted into the National Society of Magna Carta Dames and Barons and the Plantagenet Society and told my records were the best seen in years.Sometimes what appears obscure in a record can reveal much. As for my being disappointed as to any line about Royalty my gt. Grandfather John Francis Shannon was confirmed at Lismore Castle where he was born and that these records are not located at St. George's Windsor as I have been a member of The Knights of The Garter since 1995. I sent in three lines one from Geoffrey Chaucer via the Pole family, one from Charles Boyle VC Dungarrivan (Charles Boyle who married Jane Seymour whose father was the 2! Duke of Somerset. I have Henry VII in this line which is now DOCUMENTED. I also joined on Edward Saxe Coburg later Edward VII the gt. grandfather of Queen Elizabeth. Incidently her majesty is aware of this information and it is also at St. George's Windsor. Rest assured if that had been wrong the queen would have immediately corrected me as she is well aware of this connected in her grandfather King George V being half Bro. to Ed. VIII. Royalty Madame my gt. grandfather's children, grand, gt. grand, 2gt. grand and not 3 to 4 gt grandchildren we are the closest American born descent of Ed VII and close cousins to Queen Eliz. II and that is documented plus the queen is aware of this as well. With the Va. Hist/Genealogical Soc. telling me mu work is over 95% accurate all I can do is stand on skill and my documents. Also you will not always find a first hand document of proof and you have to learn how to closely research every word of a document found and see where it leads thus Mary Iredel is the wife of Willis Gallop I do have some indentured servants in my tree and am just as proud of them as Edward but these two instances were definitely not indentured servants. next case? This assumption came from the 1838 Currituck Co. will of Josiah Perry when he named a daughter Polly Gallop. I don't know who this Polly Perry married but it was not Willis Gallop. Willis was married to Mary Bensham, daughter of Hodges Bensham of Currituck Co. who died 30 March 1778 at Valley Forge, PA. A true Rev. War patriot. Willis and Mary named their only son Hodges B. Gallop. He was born 22 Jan 1807 at Martin's Point. I have never see his middle name spelled out but there are several instances where he used the "B" as his middle initial.
