Okay, this is what I have: My grandmother was born in Elmore Co., AL and is the daughter of Joseph Reedie Boyer and Ella Shields. Ella Shields is the daughter of William T Shields and Elizabeth Weathers. My mother and I have recently come to the conclusion that Elizabeth Weathers is the daughter of Cynthia Baker and an at this point Unknown Weathers. Ella Shields died in 1896, but her sister Ora Nell Shields Alford died in 1943, her death cert names her mother as "Elizabeth Martin". Elizabeth Weathers marriage cert to William T Shields gives her name as E A G Wethers though, so I'm guessing who ever gave the info for Ora's death cert knew she was sibling of the Martin's in Elmore Co. I have been looking for a marriage record for Cynthia and someone named Weathers. I have looked in Lincoln Co., GA, did not find one, but I did find several men named Weathers there. I found Lafayette Martin in Lee Co., AL, and have found him as L Martin in Russell Co on the 1860 census and as Lafayette Martin on the 1866 state census. Now I'm wondering if Cynthia may have married in Russell Co.,AL. Lafayette enlisted in the war in Columbus, GA in 1863, and I don't find a marriage record for him either in Lincoln Co., GA, so I'm wondering if he may have married in Russell Co. too. Also, I have another connection to you, Wiley Gantt and Martha Martin's daughter, Lucinda Cordelia Gantt married George Rufus Boyer who is the brother of Joseph Reedie Boyer. I have a digital copy of a picture Rufus and Lucinda's son, George Wiley Boyer with his grandfather Wiley Gantt. I'm interested in hearing if you have found out anything else about the Baker/Martin/Weathers connection since your original post.
