Surnames: Marshall Bayless Stanford Smith Ray Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ic.2ADI/763 Message Board Post: Hello All: I'm hunting descendants of Rev. Daniel Marshall, founder of Kiokee Baptist Church. Please help if you can. Mary Virginia Marshall Hawes is buried at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Lincoln County and she's a descendant of Rev. Daniel Marshall. Please look at two households in the 1850 Census. Notice the 12 year old Virginia in Daniel L. Marshall's household and the 16 year old Newton Hawes, student in William S. Reid's household. The 24 year old Martha A. Reid was the former Miss Martha A. Marshall and she's Daniel L. Marshall's daughter too. James Newton Hawes married Mary Virginia Marshall in 1857. Read Daniel L. Marshall's 1859 Will and notice the daughter named as Mary Harris. The Will has been transcribed by a number of people and they've all read the name as Mary Harris. But it's Mary Hawes instead of Mary Harris. Mary Hawes wife of James Newton Hawes. Daniel L. Marshall's widow, Penelope Marshall is listed in the 1860 Lincoln County Census in James Hawes' household. The Lincoln County cemetery book by Betty Sue Dunaway & Larry Raymond Butler gives the grave inscriptions for James N. and Virginia Hawes. They're buried at New Hope Baptist Church and the book also gives Virginia's obituary from the Lincoln Journal newspaper issue 3-13-1911. It said she was the former Miss Marshall, born in Columbia County and the obituary named eight children. The Lincoln County Historical Society published a book titled, Lincoln County Legends Volume II and it had had a Family Group Record for James Newton Hawes and wife Mary Virginia Marshall. Mary Virginia's parents are listed as Daniel L. Marshall and her mother is listed as being Mary Penelope Smalley. Ten children were named and the list including these daughters: Rebecca Emily Hawes who married Simon Walton Hogan Mamie Ellen Hawes who married Otis Benjamin Wright Miss Walker Belle Hawes and Mattie Hawes who married Benjamin F. Cliatt Please review some reference material. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ 1850 Columbia County Census 470 Marshal, Daniel L. 64 M Planter 10,000 Ga.
