Cynthia, I've spent the day in the rootsweb archives in Lincoln County. Decided to go to the Chatham County archives to see what else that I could find on my gg grandparents. You'll like this one. . . http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/chatham/census/1850/1850cens.txt kemis From: Kemis Massey Cynthia, Until this past Wednesday evening, I didn't even know that my gggrandparents married in Lincoln County. On Wednesday evening an angel sent me 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 census records on my gggrandparents. Also this tid-bit (which is the reason I joined the Lincoln list): Georgia Marriages to 1850 <http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=2085&enc=1> Record about Permelia J. Mays Name: James E.[Rev] Evans Spouse: Permelia J. Mays Marriage Date: 25 Mar 1831 Marriage Location: Lincoln, Georgia Since I don't have a paid account at ancestry, there wasn't anyway for me to find the info. I knew my gggrandfather was James E. EVANS and he took my g aunt to live with him after the death of her step-mother. Where I had assumed Bibb County as after my ggrandfather's death in 1941 a cousin sent my grandfather a letter stating they just found out he existed. They were selling my ggrandfathers home in Dekalb County and the home he had inherited in Bibb County from his father. Reluctantly they were offering to divide the money with him, but since he had never had contact with the family they didn't see how he would think he was entitled to anything. My ggrandfather had sent my grandfather and his half-brother to live with his half-brothers grandparents. My ggrandfather sent money to the family to raise the boys. But the boys weren't told of the money, it was after their deaths that family members told one of my uncles that their father spent the money on his own childre! n and deprived both boys of food and clothes. So from 1880 (age 7) to 1943 my grandfather never saw or spoke to his father and never knew of other family members. Wow, I re-read your message before sending this. With both having the EVANS name and being married in Lincoln there should be some sort of link. Now for the ironic part. My grandfather James Jefferson EVANS was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, but his father William was from GA. My grandmother was Sadie IV(E)Y from Poughkeepsie - she was the mother of 2 Jeff and Lucy. William's 2nd wife was Anna CASH from Harris County, GA. It has always puzzled me how someone went from Poughkeepsie, NY having 2 children 1873 and 1875 - to living in Dekalb County, GA in June 1880. But being married to a woman from Harris County, GA. If James and Matilda were related, that would explain how William met Anna. BTW, my Jeff EVANS married Dora ROSAMOND. They had 13 children, raising 12 of them in the house that my grandmother was born in as was all 13 of her children. The house is no longer there as it was replaced in the 1960's but the land is still owned my cousins. It's located on the corner of Barnes Mill and Duke Roads. Welcome Parks DUKE got the land in the 1838 land lottery. He is my gggrandfather.
