    3. Please leave the list like it is. Many of us don't have time to go to Ancestry to look for all that we want to know. Thank you, Liz for all of your hard work. I appreciate you and all the people who contribute to this list. This list has very few postings anyway as it is. Lists are for the exchanging of information, questions and possible answers. And I do not want to get any unkind comments from anyone for my comments. thanks, betty in ga ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth Nash" <lznash@bellsouth.net> To: <GALINCOL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 31, 2006 12:17 PM Subject: RE: [GALINCOL] Message board > Does anyone else on the mailing list feel this way? 2. I would rather they continue to come through to the mailing list. I have a delete button that I use if the subject line does not appeal. I don't usually remember to check the board; this way I still see the messages, if I chose. Just my opinion, Linda

Surnames: Burdette, Burdett Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ic.2ADI/756.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Jackie, I'd love to have more info on your Laurens Co. Burdettes. I've been working with Doug Burdette on the Burns Burdette line in SC. Is this the same one? My Humphrey Burdette from VA moved to Wilkes Co., GA along with his grown sons 1780-1787. Some of them settled over the line in SC and stayed about 20 years before moving to GA. And some of those had kids that stayed in SC making the tracing more difficult since all the kids names didn't show up on census records that early. The only brother I know for sure that stayed in SC is Stratton Burdette. Humphrey died before 1820 in Wilkes Co., Ga. We believe his parents were Humphrey Burdette d. 1785 VA & Mary Kent. There are several other Humphrey Burdettes up in VA and we've not been able to untangle all of them yet to know who was who. My Humphrey died Wilkes Co. had sons Thomas, John, James, Samuel Littleberry, Humphrey, Stratton from his first marriage & Joshua, William, Benjamin from his second--though Joshua could be a first marriage child.

My Burdettes from Wilkes Co., GA & Pendleton Dist., SC were very prolific but I don't have a James Clarence in my database. Was he one of those from Greenville Dist., SC that no one has been able to tie in with the other SC ones yet? I'm a member of a big Burdette research group and we try to keep track of both sets since some stayed in SC and others went to GA & AL.

    3. Zack, some of the Huguenot families that settled in Lincoln County were the Gillebeaus and the Leroys. The Gillebeaus settled in Lincoln County and the LeRoys settled in Wilkes County (they moved there from New Bordeaux, South Carolina) and some moved to McDuffie County. Another French name which appears in Lincoln County is DuBose but I don't know if they were Huguenots or not. I have some information on the LeRoy family if you're interested.
