The only map I can find is located at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~galincol/mapfph.html It shows the creeks and militia districts, but not in detail. I located on a map, that Soap Creek runs away fron east to west in the north Lincolnto area which is south of Prater Road. There is also, first, a Richards Creek. I would dearly like to see early plat of the lands between Metasville Rd, and hwy79 n. down the creek beds... Thinking George Cullars was born in Sybert, with the graves site on the road... All that land could have been originally Cullars property. Seeking the burial location of Matthew Cullars. ~Walter L. Cullars
Why don't you check the GA Tax list online-can't remember the URL at the moment-to see who lived close to her. That is a good resource since I don't think there is an 1800 census. I'm seeking information on my ancestor, Mary M. Burgess, who married G. T. Spires in Lincoln County in 1856. I'd like to know if anyone knows her date of death and where she is buried. On Ancestry.com there is family tree information that has a death date for her but no sources for the information and I've been unable to contact the person who submitted the information. Mary was the daughter of Pleasant Burgess and appears on the 1870 census living next door to her father without her husband, this is the last information I've been able to locate on her. Mr. Cullars, The following website has a fairly nice write-up of the Battle of Briar Creek or Brier Creek. Lifted from that article,,, The actual Battle of Briar or Brier Creek (As it is spelled on today's map) occurred on March 3rd, on a site roughly designated as at a bridge over Briar creek south of Augusta which appears to be where today's U.S. Hwy 25. and State Highway 121 cross Brier Creek, just northwest of the present day town of Waynesboro, Georgia. Hope this helps... Barron -----Original Message----- From: wcullars <wcullars@bellsouth.net> To: GALINCOL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sat, 26 Jul 2008 10:11 pm Subject: [GALINCOL] Battle at Briar Creek ? I know where the New Hope Cemetery is but can not recall off hand where the Maddox cemetery is. If things work out this we are supposed to take a look at several state parks and if you send me the names I will take pictures IF we go to Lincoln County. That is as close a I know right now. If I have the names and get to go though I will be able to stop and take them.
