Hummmmmm, hummmmmmm, Eliza Evans and Eleanor Elizabeth Houghton one and the same? That would mean she was married to an Evans BEFORE she married William Parks which of course is certainly possible. However, I do not show a marriage for Eleanor Houghton to an Evans in the Lincoln Co marriage book. Okay, Lincoln Co is driving me CRAZY!!! Dilemma #1 - Rev. Pleasant F. Burgess married Nancy E. Tyler on 01 Jan 1857 and then she died shortly thereafter. I am trying to figure out who Nancy's parents were. Pleasant was the administrator of James Tyler's will so I am thinking that Nancy is his daughter. James Tyler did have a daughter named Elizabeth born abt. 1836. So are Nancy E. and Elizabeth one and the same? I think so but I can't prove it. Dilemma #2 - William A. Burgess married Mary E. Tyler 28 Jun 1858. I don't know where either of these fit in. Is William a brother to Pleasant? Mary E. Tyler.... who knows! James Tyler didn't have a daughter named Mary. BUT, there was a daughter named Redora [?] born abt. 1835. Could that be Eudora? That is a possible name and then maybe Mary E. and Eudora are one and the same [yeah, yeah, I know, this one is a little more far fetched] Dilemma #3 - Wiley J. Spires married Martha G. Houghton on 10 Sep 1865. I can't figure out who Martha belongs to. She should be with her parents in 1850 and 1860 but I can't find her in the census. I have a will for an Elizabeth Houghton dated 10 Jul 1857. She names son William Michael Houghton and daughter Eleanor Elizabeth Parks, wife of William C. Parks. I am sure Martha ties in but how? She probably isn't Elizabeth's daughter since she isn't named. One the 1870 census we have... Wily J. Spires, age 45, male, white, farmer, value of real estate $400, value of personal estate $600, born in GA Martha E. Spires, age 26, female, white, keeping house, born in GA Robert L. Spires, age 3, male, white, born in GA Mary Haughton [possible middle initial of A or N. . It is unreadable to this compiler] age 66, female, white, at home, born in GA So it appears that Mary is Martha's mother. DOES ANYONE KNOW THESE PEOPLE SO THAT I DON'T LOSE MY MIND? Barton Norman is mentioned several times in deeds. There is a deedbook E page 273-274 where Lemuel Towler and Jean his wife sold 132 acres on Fishing Creek adjoining Laurence Sudduth, Grimsley, Steele and John Walton. Registered July 1, 1807. I think Barton Norman is part of the Wilkes County Normans. Contact Don Fucich at mudbug@wildblue.net. He has a lot of information on the Wilkes County Normans. They are closely related to the Lincoln County Normans. Where did you find any Elbert Co Records? Many people left GA for AL about the same time that yous went to Talladaga AL as our government took land away from the Indians. Land was "farmed out' quickly because of poor farming practices. AL has good land records. Always remember that GA has several decades of missing census records during this time period. Also depending on where your family lived in Elbert Co GA they all may be blowing bubbles in all that water that was backed up because of those dams that were placed on the Savannah River. Yes, we need that power and all that backed up water but the Corps of Engineers was supposed to document and map each old cemetery before the water backed up. Unfortunately/fortunately depending on the way you look at it the water backed up very quickly. The only records that I have been able to find, but not get to yet, are supposed to be housed in the libray at Hartwell, GA. Have you been to all of the Rootsweb and Genweb web sites on these counties? There are land records for Al on the Internet but I can't remember where they are right now. They may be on Ancestry.
