Hi John I think the place is KOLACZYCE which, in 1900, was in the Jaslo administrative district and Jaslo township/gmina. Roman Catholics worshipped in Kolaczyce while Jewish residents worshipped at Frysztak and Greek Catholics worshipped at Rzepnik. The town is about 25 miles southeast of Tarnow and about 15 miles northwest of Krosno. If your ancestors were Roman Catholic, here's a photo of the parish church of Saint Ann in Kolaczyce. In fact, in 1990 there were 1105 GRA~DZIELs (Polish diacritical mark under the A) and 27 GRADZIELs living in Poland but no GRAZDIELs. I wonder if the surname has "evolved" somewhat since coming to North America? On the other hand, in 1990 there were 2307 KARDASs, 1352 KARDAS~ (Polish diacritical mark over the S), and 2272 KARDASZs living in Poland - with enough living in the vicinities of Krosno and Tarnow to make me confident that we've found the correct town. By the way, the spelling KARDAS~ (Polish diacritical mark over the S) is probably the most frequent of the three in the Tarnow-Krosno area. Good luck in your research!
