When researching my family (Holowenczak) history I found that Ewa Holowenchuk (different spelling variation) was on list of Detained Aliens from ship America in December 1913. The very end of the manifest pages for the ship has a list of the detained passengers. For women travelling alone, it was customary for them to be held until someone arrived to pick them up, for their own safety.
