Hi Laurence, Thank you for helping me brainstorm. This is exactly the kind of help I was hoping to find here in this group -- the most logical explanation for obtaining the films available. I have the Wysocko just north of Przemsyl film on order. I sure hope it comes in soon. I can't wait to see who's there. In my original request, I did not want to add too much personal family hearsay story, but the son of Stefan Szelest is 83 and told me that he remembers his dad trying to explain to him where his family was from in Europe. Stefan always proudly said he was Ukrainian, but that his hometown always had borders changing, so sometimes they would be in Ukraine, then change to Poland, and they were under Austria's rule, so it was hard to keep it all straight. This story encourages me to believe I will find the family in Wysocko just north of Przemsyl. At least, this is where I will start. Keeping fingers crossed here. Where I find the Szelests for one cousin, I will find the Zommer/Zomyrs for the other cousin. I'll be sure to update the group on what I find. Wysocko Wyzne near Borynia, Ukraine. 4. Wysocko Nizne near Borynia, Ukraine. There are four places with name Zablotce: 1. one near Radymno 2. one near Przemysl 3. one near Brody 4. one near Sanok. Stefan Szclest left his father located in "Wysocko, Zablotce". Which of the four Zablotces are located nearest to a Wysocko? We can eliminate Wysockos 3 and 4. So it's Wysocko 1 or 2. I have recently searched the /Gazetteer of the Crownlands/ ..../Galizien 1900./ It proved to have some interesting info for me. In the Appendix, it indicates where the villagers can obtain health services: at the "Sanitats- gemeinden, bezw. sanitatadistrikte". What health services would this be? RavenFan: Have you looked at the two Szelest passport applications on Ancestry? They don't appear to be from this village or Rhode Island, but you are scooping up all Szelest. Teodor's has two letters from Poland attached which BEG him to come home and help on the farm in 1921. Just an FYI. PolishDragon@att.net

I have strained my eyes trying to figure out that word. Isn't this handwriting difficult?! I can see that "my" Stefan Szelest reports he leaves behind his "father, Tomko Szelest in Wysocko, " but that word after wysocko on Line 11 looks to me like " Lablof/tce" which makes no sense at all. Hi Kath Yes, Jazlowiec was part of the Austrian Crownland of Galicia. Before that it was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and before that it was part of the Kingdom of Poland. In 1945, it was made part of Ukrainian SSR. In 1900, Jazlowiec (today Pomortsy) was in the Buczacz (Ukr.: Bucac) administrative district and Buczacz (Ukr.: Bucac) township/gmina. It was about 35 miles east of Stanislawow (Ger.: Stanislau, today Ivano-Frankivsk). Jazlowiec is not related to Jaroslaw in any way, except for the first two letters of its name. Please could someone offer me some guidance. I have my grandmother's baptism record scanned. I would like someone to take a look at it at try to help me figure out the information regarding the parish and other places recorded at the top of the page. Thank you Dennis. I suspect my research will be hunt & peck. I guess I will just start with one film and go from there. As to my other questions, does anyone have any input on that? I would like to request the baptismal/birth documents for Stefan Szelest and Tadej/Tadeusz Zommer born in 1895 and 1881 respectively. These dates are not included on the available LDS films.
