    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Coleman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Zc.2ADI/95.96.288.293.297.341.354.808.814.818.821.824.816 Message Board Post: I have recently run across a copy of 'The Colemanac 1750-1976, The lineage of Five Georgia Coleman Families, Jonathan,Elisha,Charles,Lindsey,Rachel'. It was written by Arthur Clinton Coleman and published by Lee Printing,Inc of Jacksonville,Fl. It took a couple of attempts through my local library to request an interlibrary loan. With that said, here goes... On page 15: "At this same point in time, names listed as 'Persons Eligible to be Drawn in Land Lottery of 1807,Burke County,"include;Jonathan Coleman, Charles Coleman, Richard Coleman, William Coleman, and Jesse Coleman." (I descend through Jesse Coleman) Jonathan Coleman did in fact witness the will of a Theophilus Coleman. It is mentioned that Theophilus was from NC and a Revolutionary Soldier. Two other witnesses were 'Josey' Coleman and Jeremiah Coleman. We all know how difficult it is sometimes to decipher the flourished handwriting of that time, plus the 'creative' spelling that was used. I am wondering if 'Josey' might in fact be Jesse. The book also lists as a reference the following: 'The Official History of Laurens County,Georgia, 1807-1941, by Bertha Sheppard Hart, M.A.. Edited and published by John Laurens Chapter DAR. Dublin,GA. 1941. The McGregor Company,Athens,GA. The item: Person Eligible To Draws in Land Lottery 1819 Captain Leroy G Harris District. Name Coleman,Josey Coleman,John Coleman,James Coleman,Jonathan Coleman,W Wade Coleman,R Wright " Each of them had one draw . I do not know if they were 'lucky'. Dave Watson

    3. Hello! Seeing that you appear to be descended from this Coleman line and have done some work on it, do you have anymore info than this concerning Theophilus Coleman? I have material, but would like to see some more info and perhaps proof of lineage. We believe that my husband's great great-grandmother was his granddaughter. I would like to help my m-i-l find more concrete proof if this is available. Can you share any info or resources that would help her research?
