I am actually not a descendant of this family, but of several lines which lived in the same vicinity in the 1800's, and I still live in the same vicinity today, therefore I get drawn into this Nelms research quite often. I do not know if Mary Ann was a daughter to this couple or not, some of the lines which I have come across show her as their dau, and some do not. However, I do not think that Curtis's wife died in 1861, as I have a local newspaper item showing: June 3, 1865 from the Albany (GA) Patriot Newspaper - - This is to notify all persons that Mary Nelms, my wife, has without any cause whatsoever deserted my bed and board and I will not be responsible for her debts or contracts. (signed) Curtis Nelms I think there was at least one person in 1999 working on the Curtis Nelms line, using the GenForum site for "Nelms" Have you checked that site for contacts? I will recheck my file, and if I come up with anything else, I will forward it to you. Sorry I can't be of much help to you. Regards.

I believe that she died Jan 15, 1861 Mitchel Co. GA. Does this fit with your Curtis Nelums? I believe that their daughter Mary Ann was born in Thomas Co. GA and married William Berry Griner- they married either Mitchel or Baker Co, GA 1825, and they migrated to Newton Co. TX. Regards, Judy Kimball
